City/town information

Bagamoyo is located about an hour's drive from Dar es Salaam City. It is a memorial town where Livingstone set foot on and the Germans made their stronghold fort here...after raiding away the Arabs who did a 5 century slave and plantation trade. Great places to visit at Bagamoyo include the museum of slaves, the monumental catholic church built by Livingstone, the beach shore cross built at where it is said missionaries first set foot on when he arrived in Tanganyika (Msalabani), the number of hidden gem hotels and guest stays plus the phenomenal arts college of Bagamoyo which hosts a number of concerts and events (including Remi Ongala concert that is very popular among bongo flava music & rastafari community)

Zanzibar is rich different culture influences. Arabian, Indian, Persian and European heritage mix together with local African traditions to create a unique feel to this sprawling seaside town. Historic buildings and beautiful architecture hang ominously above the narrow winding streets of Stone Town. Our tour includes a valuable insight into the distinctive culture of Zanzibar and includes a visit to a town market, house of wonder, sultan palace, National museum ect. With visits to the House of Wonder, The former slave market for East African slave trade, and the Arab Fort. The architectural style of Stone Town buildings is a unique mixture of various influences and culture. There is a lot of carved wooden doors in Stone Town. At last count in Zanzibar, these doors were 560. Going by flight for 25mins or by sea for 45 mins. It is possible to go in the morning & be back by evening or plan a weekend getaway.

Συμβουλές για την πόλη

Έθιμα και πολιτισμός

The locals are very friendly, mambo/habari is greetings

it's a custom to greet each other when we passby, it is kind of a big deal here. Also when someone helps or serves you at the shop or local butcher - you can say 'Ahsante' in swahili it means thank you. It's okay to wear short clothes when going to the city but always have a piece of cloth to wrap up just in case you passby a mosque - especially on fridays.

Uber/Bolt is the fastest way to get around

I have worked with an uber driver who is very faithful and I use him with all my guests - he can arrange a special rate for you to move around the city. PS: He speaks english (not very common). Sometimes you would also like your items picked up from the store, hence I work with 2 motorcycle men (bodaboda) who can help with delivery. 1 of them speaks english

Not many locals speak english

An etimate of not more than 20% of Tanzanians speak English, and many of those who do are busy at white collar jobs, so you will mostly be interacting with the other 80%.
