Across the Gulf- Proof and Experimental Establishment (PaEE)

If you're driving from Adelaide, you'll pass the turn off to the PaEE (where the cannon is!). And if you hear a lound boom during the day at the shack, this is why! "The PaEE hosts weapons trials, munitions proofing and environmental testing ... The 56 sq km site is 83 kms north of Adelaide, near the northern tip of Gulf St Vincent. Because of large tidal movements, it is the only range in Australia where projectiles can be fired into a coastal area and retrieved relatively undamaged for assessment". “Like a Sunrise”

Don't miss the sunrise over Gulf St Vincent. Seen best from the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, or outside on the beach just steps from the shack. Yorke Peninsula is one of those rare places in Australia where you can watch the sunrise over the ocean in the east, and then after a quick drive, you can watch the sunset over the ocean in the west. So make it an early start to watch the sunrise over Gulf St Vincent while you're at Samphire Shack, then later in the day, take a 1 hour drive to Wallaroo to watch the sunset over Spencer Gulf and stay to watch the Wallaroo Silo Light Show.

Yorke Peninsula Shacks

"The people of Yorke Peninsula have loved their shacks forever. You'll find scores of them for rent right across the peninsula, though don't expect all shacks to be alike. Sure, you can still find quirky old fibro retreats from the '50's, but these days the 'humble shack' is just as likely to be a million-dollar build on the seafront." - Due South Magazine Samphire Shack is definitely one of those quirky ones!
