Lots of history here! Many old films like Tarzan, Creature from the Black Lagoon and others were filmed here. The waters of Silver Springs State Park are dotted with kayaks and glass-bottom boats. The park is also the gateway to the woods and lakes of the vast Ocala National Forest to the east.

Fort King was a United States military fort in north central Florida, near what later developed as the city of Ocala. The fort was built in 1827. It later served as a courthouse in 1844 after the organization of Marion County, but was eventually abandoned altogether. The site of the fort is preserved as a National Historic Landmark near the corner of East Fort King Street and 39th Avenue in Ocala. In late 2017, the fort was newly reconstructed to be as historically accurate as possible.

The downtown square is a great place to visit. Occasional live music on the square. Between Thanksgiving and New Years there are horse drawn carriage rides. Many restaurants and bars. Lots of antique and other unique shops to browse.
