Concord

Concord is a town northwest of Boston, Massachusetts. It’s known for the American Revolutionary War sites in Minute Man National Historical Park. Walden Pond State Reservation

Walden Pond is a lake in Concord, Massachusetts, in the United States. A famous example of a kettle hole, it was formed by retreating glaciers 10,000–12,000 years ago.[4] The pond is protected as part of Walden Pond State Reservation, a 335-acre (136 ha) state park and recreation site managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.[1] The reservation was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962 for its association with the writer Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862), whose two years living in a cabin on its shore provided the foundation for his famous 1854 work, Walden; or, Life in the Woods. Let a visit to Walden Pond bring you back in time to the mid-1800's. Experience the connection with nature that inspired Henry David Thoreau's Walden. Enjoy a day of swimming, walking around the famous pond or boating out on the water. Also be sure to visit the replica of Thoreau's single-room cabin.

The area also features a tubing park with 16 runs served by two Poma handle tows and a Sun-Kid Conveyor; this is on the same property, but has a separate entrance on Route 119 in Littleton, Massachusetts.

The Luina Greine Farm is located near the town common in picturesque Groton, Massachusetts. arandnear was the summer home of the Banks family for several generations, with Arthur Banks—an accomplished political scientist and professor—its most recent resident. Banks’s grandfather, Charles Goodspeed, named the property because, at 50 miles from his home in Wollaston, it was “far” enough to require a two-day journey by horse to reach, but “near” enough to be a vacation home. The park-like grounds at Farandnear are perfect for playing, picnicking, relaxing, and more. Along its easy wooded trails, you’ll find fields of wildflowers, an arboretum full of more than 80 cool conifer trees, the remnants of an old cranberry bog, and Paradise, a 10-acre parcel where huge hemlocks grow. Keep your ears open throughout your journey: you’ll hear lots of birds calling, including black-capped chickadees, catbirds, and barred owls.

You can also duck into woods for a bit and stroll along the beautiful Nashua River with conservation land on both sides. Moderate pace. Meet at the parking area at the top of the General Field. 421-431 Farmers Row, Groton, MA 01450 The land slopes down gently from a nice wildflower-decorated park-like area next to the parking and gives you a panoramic view to the south and southwest. You can stay up on the hill to soak in the views of many towns in the area as well as the stand-out Mt. Wachusetts, or you can take a trail that goes about 2 miles around the field and connects with Surrenden Farm field to the west. These two fields provide spectacular sunset views when the weather cooperates. The General Field is on the border between Groton and Ayer. Access is from Farmers Row (Rte. 111). Take a paved road that is about 0.1 miles south of Joy Ln. to the parking area.
