Welcome to Trevene, we hope you enjoy your stay here. We have put together some simple information about the house and a short guide to some of the things we enjoy doing when we are staying here. Queries & Problems If you have any queries or problems please get in touch with Cornish Secrets who look after the house. Parking Mousehole was built before cars and the tiny streets and alleyways with close packed houses are a huge part of its charm. Unload by stopping on the double yellow lines outside Southview Terrance. Then park in one of the three village carparks on each of the quaysides, or in the larger car park next to The Coastguard. Parking charges apply. These are our favourite beaches. Mousehole Harbour Good for swimming and for messing about in a dinghy. Nothing is more lovely than a late afternoon swim across the harbour and back. The beaches in the harbour are very good for pre-school children. To the north of the harbour there are rock pools including a large man-made rock pool. Marazion A lovely beach with a view of St Michaels Mount. Very shallow so the sea is warmer than the wilder beaches to the west. Car parking, café and toilets. Sailing, paddle boarding, and all the attractions of Marazion and St Michaels Mount. Marazion Beach stretches into Long Rock beach and is so large that it never seems to get over-crowded. Porthcurno One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. White sand, turquoise sea and sheltered from the wind. There is car parking, café and toilets and a short walk down from these to the beach through a beautiful valley. A great beach with small children although the sand shelves steeply into the sea so it is less good for learning to paddle and swim. The beach can get very busy in peak season. Pedn-Vounder This beach simply is the most beautiful beach in the world, but it is challenging to reach. There is a car park, café and toilets at Treen. There is quite a long walk to the beach and the final part of the walk is a scramble climb down quite a high cliff. The beach is completely covered at high tide, so check tide times, it is also an unofficial nudist beach and there may be nudists and non-nudists there. Porth Chapel This beach is an all-round gem, a smaller cove with a gentle slope to the sea. Park by the Church at St Levan and there is a medium length walk down a valley to the beach with a short rock climb at the end. No café or toilets. Porth Chapel can also be reached from the car parks at the Minack Theatre by walking along the cliff path. Godrevy A beautiful, huge beach on the north coast with a very different style to the coves on the south coast. Car Park, café and toilets. This beach is good for body boarding and surfing. Other beaches to explore are – Porthminster (St Ives), Sennen, Portheras, Praa Sands and Porthmeor. Walking There are so many walks that it is very hard to choose. We have selected some of our favourites. Treen to Porthcurno, via Penberth From Treen, walk east to the tiny fishing village of Penberth, circling round along the cliffs to Porthcurno and back to Treen. Treen has a car park, toilets and a café. Lelant to Carbis Bay Park at the Church at Lelant and walk along the coast to Carbis bay. The walk follows the little branch line to St Ives and the view across the bay to Hayle and the Godrevy Lighthouse is fantastic. Mousehole to Lamorna A lovely walk which goes through different landscapes, including walking through a nature reserve and around the headland of Carn du. The path gets rocky in some parts. Mousehole to Newlyn Along the road and along the old railway workings, but a good “leg stretch” with views of St Michaels Mount and ending at the shops of Newlyn. Sennen to Land’s End One of the easiest parts of the coast path as this section is well walked and takes you along the cliffs and past a wreck to Lands End. A very good way to reach Land’s End that avoids the large car parks and Shaun the Sheep Experience. Porthleven to Penrose On the other side of Mount’s Bay, this is an interesting walk along the serpentine cliffs from Porthleven up to Loe Bar and then inland along the side of Loe Pool into the National Trust Penrose Estate. There is a Stables Café on the estate. Things to see and do There are lots of things to do and many of them are also good for rainy days: St Michael’s Mount Walk across the causeway at low tide or take a boat at high tide to the castle on the island in Mounts Bay. National Trust members get free entry. Amazing gardens. The Minack Theatre Incredible open air theatre cut into the cliffs above Porthcurno. Watching a play at the Minack is an unforgettable experience. If you book an evening performance wrap up warm as it get very cold. Geevor Tin Mine Exploring the tin mine that only shut in the 1990s and feels as if the miners have just left. There is lots to see including the lift engines, the miners dry and there is a walk through an old mine. Levant & Bottalack National Trust owned mines from the Nineteenth Century. Levant is highly atmospheric with a working Steam Engine. There are a number of walks around the mine workings which go onto the cliffs and out under the sea. Porthcurno Telegraph Museum History of the Telegraph that connected the UK to the rest of the world with cables that ran under Porthcurno beach. The museum also includes tunnels under the cliff that were used in the Second World War.
