Warm hospitality and truly excellent gastro pub food at this local. Alexandra is a town of 5 pubs (!) and this is by far our pick of the bunch. Why? Well if we are to judge a book by its cover, I love its styling because it a little edgy but still pays homage to its historic origins. Secondly, it is owner operated and you can feel the heart and soul in the place. Thirdly, the menu and wine list are solid. The burgers are excellent and my favourite is their fresh trout tacos. Ask for a local beer or wine recommendation and you won't be disappointed. Family friendly with a sweet courtyard out the back.

We gave this place a try for lunch and it was fab! The menu seemed like Mexican and Japanese had a lovechild and the flavours were spot on. We ordered the dumplings, the prawn sandwich, and the beef burger. Coffee excellent too (not praise we Melbourne coffee snobs give lightly).

I love this place. Coffee is excellent and they have an excellent selection of preserves (kassoundi and harissa straight to our pantry) and ready to heat gourmet meals. A great option to pick up dinner for later at the cabin.

Between Alexandra and Healsville, you'll come across this family-friendly farm with fish on the bite. If you're not into fishing, you can also pick up fresh smoked fish to take home. This destination was razed in the devastating Black Saturday bushfires, so it's nice to help them rebuild their business.

Ok so full confession, we have not personally tried this yet. But every time we take the Hume and cut through Tallarook we say that we must do the trail. It looks in brilliant condition (and flat which I like!!) with lots of sweet little towns in its path. I will try it one of these days, but you definitely should ;)

Ok so full confession, we have not personally tried this yet. But every time we take the Hume and cut through Tallarook we say that we must do the trail. It looks in brilliant condition (and flat which I like!!) with lots of sweet little towns in its path. I will try it one of these days, but you definitely should ;)
