Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in Alabama. It's a beautiful 30 minute drive from the caboose. Take a stroll down the boardwalk to Bald Rock and take in the magnificent view. Also there are great views from the restaurant and the food there is good too! A lot of our guest enjoy hiking in the park also.

If you love the lake life, you'll want to visit Lake Wedowee, and easy 30 minute drive. There are quaint antique shops and Miss Amber's coffee house you will want to visit also. Be sure and try her cathead biscuits for breakfast and her Chicken salad is amazing!

Ashland City Park offers playground equipment, tennis courts and walking trails. The first weekend in August, you'll find all the locals gathered together for the annual Yellow Meated Watermelon Festival. And another fun event is the lighting of the Park and community worship service around the first weekend in December.

It's just a short hike up to High Falls and you can see the beautiful waterfalls. This is located in the Highland area on your way to Cheaha State Park. If you do some climbing there are more falls the higher up you go.

Built in 1906, the Clay County Courthouse is the highest elevated courthouse in the state of Alabama. Located on the square in Ashland, Alabama, it now houses the Hugo Black Museum. It was built in 1906 for $37,986.00 by Architect Charles Carlton of Anniston, AL as part of Harper & Barnes of Cleveland, TN. It has been part of the Historical Registry since 1976. The clock, built in 1907 by Seth Thomas, is still in working condition.

I can’t say enough good things about The Coffee Bean. Delicious specialty coffees, sweet treats, ice cream, artisan sandwiches and wraps. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere creates such a satisfactory experience.

If Mexican food is what you are craving, you won't find any better than at one of the 2 Monte Alban restaurants in the county. There's one in Ashland and Lineville. The one in Ashland is on the square and the one in Lineville is on Hwy 9.
