Fleet is one of the most enchanting regional restaurants to have opened in Australia in recent years. The ever changing menu is made up of a series o smaller dishes, each with a focus on a few primary ingredients. As a guest you have the option to pick and choose from the items listed. Alternatively they offer a relaxed, shared based degustation style menu. The price is $100 per head and consists of eight (8) different dishes. The beverage list is equally fluid! Its focus is on small sustainable and mindfully produced wines with a mix of predominately Australian producers and a smaller variety of international winemakers. They also offer a diverse range of cocktails, beers and house made sodas. You will need to book well in advance to secure a table at Fleet as it is one of the most popular restaurants in the Norther Rivers. www.fleet-restaurant.com.au

The Farm is principally a working farm, home to a collection of independent businesses all sharing in a common goal - "Grow, Feed, Educate". They invite everyone to come, visit and see for yourself how a farm operates, supports the environment and contributes to a healthier lifestyle. 'The Farm' offers daily tours of the working farm at 10am -ideal for the little ones but for me 'Three Blue Ducks' cuisine & Bakery are the attraction. Earlier visit I had the Portuguese custard tart & coffee from the Bakery - just superb. This can be bought as take-away or consumed onsite at casual benches. However today I thoroughly enjoyed the ever so tender Coconut Pork main course & indulged in savouring the Bread & Butter Pudding, miso butterscotch, vanilla bean ice-cream & honeycomb! Having had no breakfast - how decadent! The chef couldn't have improved either. Beautiful flavours. Long queues being holiday time but the busy, professional staff handled the over flow of people waiting for tables. It's a must when visiting Byron Bay.

Sightseeing

The view from Minyon Falls lookout is the best in the area; not only of the falls themselves, but on a clear day you might be lucky to see all the way out to the coast. From the lookout, watch the cascades flow over Minyon Falls to a deep palm-shaded gorge roughly 100m below. The tops of the cliffs are forested with Australian eucalypts, like blackbutt and scribbly gum. At the base of the falls is a beautiful natural pool that was made for swimming. Minyon Falls is a great place for a quick stop, but if you’d like to spend longer at this pretty place, there's a picnic area with plenty of shady trees, barbecues and picnic tables. There are also a couple of bushwalks that leave from the picnic area, including Boggy Creek walk, which takes you to Rummery Park campground, and Minyon Falls walking track, which takes you down to the base of the falls.

A beautifully sited gallery with several galleries of special exhibitions, with the highlight being the Olley artwork and re-creation of her home-studio. With the video and hands-on experiences it is totally inspiring as you become immersed in the artist's work and life. Friendly informed staff and volunteers enrich the experience....a "must stop" visit.

Mullumbimby is a scenic little village. Nestled in the midst of verdant cane fields with Mount Chincogan looming in the background, it makes for a very scenic drive into town. Also striking, when you get to the first roundabout, is the large fig tree, covered in hand made multi-coloured knit wear! Testament that this really is an alternative community. Once you wander around the shops, you will realise that these are not the usual country town goods on offer in most of outback Australia. There is great alternative clothing on sale, craft and art work and a smattering of galleries interspersed with the shops.

Unspoiled by development, timber bridges link the colourful village to the safe, gentle river beach and the spectacular surf beach that spans the coastline all the way to Byron Bay. Amongst the natural beauty of the beaches and river there is an unique shopping experience to be had with an eclectic range of boutiques, second hand fare and one of the shire's famous river front markets. A wonderful choice of cafes and restaurants.
