A typically French bar and an excellent restaurant, lovely to sit outside of when the sun is out. Very good value for lunch too.

This incredibly friendly Moroccan restaurant serves large portions of great couscous and tagines (meat and vegetable stews with a spicy harissa sauce), plus kebabs or steak and chips. All very simple but very good value.

Just a short drive from Montaigu, this is an exceptional although quite expensive chateau-type restaurant and hotel, good for romantic dinners. There's also a specialist wine bar, now Le Bistrot de Stephanie, offering a table d'hotes in the evenings except Sundays and with a happy hour on Thursdays.

Parks & Nature

A fabulous place to walk around, sunbathe on the lovely beach, and swim. A great little restaurant overlooking the beach plus a snack bar La Cabane with good evening tapas at the camper end and other facilities including pedalos are available in season.

Everything Else

A great tourist city, good for eating, shopping, wine, with a 13th century bridge over the beautiful river Lot. It also has a really excellent small museum about the French resistance, though it helps if you speak some French there.

A small bastide town close by with a couple of antique shops and fantastic views of the area helped by stone compass guides. It has a very good flower festival at the beginning of May.

Essentials

There's a small Intermarche in Montaigu itself, and some DIY places, but for good supermarkets and superstores, head towards Fumel.
