At the end of the last ice age, over one hundred-thousand years ago, massive glaciers advanced southward from Canada, carving deep trenches in the earth. As the earth warmed and the glaciers receded, the trenches filled with water and formed the Finger Lakes.
Seneca Lake is the largest Finger Lake and accounts for more than 50% of water found in the entire Finger Lakes Region.

The Kashong Conservation Area (Town of Geneva) comprises a network of fields (84 acres) in various stages of reforestation. There is a deep gully fed by a seasonal creek and natural springs running through the property. A series of trails (2+ miles) have been created on the property perfect for hiking, running and bird watching.
Kahong Conservation Area (KCA) is located just north of Osprey Cove. Take Route 14 North and turn leftt onto Kashong Rd. Drive about half a mile and your will see the parking area on the right. Take a look at the trail map:

Sampson State Park (Romulus) encompasses just over 2000 acres on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. The park has 243 electric campsites. The newly remodeled marina has 96 boat slips, a large multiple launch site and gas pumps. In 1995 the Military Museum was opened within the park to share the history and to honor those Navy and Air Force servicemen that booted on Sampson's ground. A key feature of the park is the beautiful view of the lake at its center, and the most picturesque sunsets in the Finger Lakes Region. Activities include tennis, horseshoes, basketball and volleyball, a sandy beach with guarded swimming, playgrounds, and a scenic lake trail. Other popular activities include fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, local golf, geocaching, and wildlife viewing and photography.

Taughannock Falls State Park's namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail.
