After being paralyzed on several occasions, in September 2009 it had reached a 75% progress.On October 2, 2014, the Biomuseo opened its doors to the public with 5 of its 8 galleries. This first part of the history of the Permanent Exhibition tells us the importance and evolution, natural and cultural, of the Isthmus of Panama. In May 2019, the last 3 permanent exhibitions are inaugurated, finalizing the construction of the original project.

Los orígenes de este parque datan de 1974, cuando se dieron los primeros pasos para el buen uso del área cercana al Canal de Panamá. Posteriormente en 1983, esta área se declaró como Área Recreativa de Curundú. Finalmente, un año después el presidente de esa época, realiza una gira presidencial y a raíz de esta gira, se presentó una propuesta de Parque Natural Metropolitano, el cual fue creado mediante la ley No. 8 del 5 de julio de 1985.
