Most of the kayaking tours in Puerto Rico are well worth the travel time. In fact, Fajardo, the island’s boating capital, is located just 45 minutes from San Juan. Fajardo’s real gem is its bioluminescent bay, Laguna Grande. This bio bay is the brightest on the island, giving you plenty of opportunities to see the glowing organisms on a kayak tour. You’ll love paddling the long canal that leads to the lagoon, and then the light show begins!
If you’re staying in San Juan, your options may be a bit limited, but you can always head over to the beach resorts of Condado and Isla Verde if you’re craving some time on the water.
If you just can’t get enough of Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays, visit Mosquito Bay in Vieques and La Parguera in Lajas to get your fill of the sparkling phenomenon. Vieques is a small island off the east coast of Puerto Rico, so most kayaking tours there require an overnight stay. However, the beautiful mangroves and abundant wildlife make the journey worth the effort! La Parguera is a great option for travelers staying on the southwest side of the island, and it’s only two hours from San Juan.
