If you want to try something different from the local Roman cuisine I think this is the right place. Meat and fish dishes, refined recipes inspired by the Italian tradition, respecting it and distorting it at the same time. A set of flavors and aromas that you can experience in an enchanting natural setting. Fusion cuisine in a particular location near Campo dei Fiori. I particularly enjoyed the venison tartare and the coconut and mango millefeuille. High prices, but given the location of the place and the quality offered it’s worth it.

Ar Galletto Restaurant, located in one of the most beautiful squares in Rome, represents an excellent location to enjoy authentic Roman cuisine, whose flavors are enhanced by the skill of the chefs. Here, the pasta alla Gricia has the authentic taste of guanciale and pecorino, the carbonara is truly delicious, and the amatriciana is captivating. Among the selected appetizers, I particularly appreciated the zucchini flowers with anchovies and the extraordinary mozzarella with raw ham. The apricot tart is also excellent, finally having the taste of a grandmother's oven. The service is adequate, and the waiters are extremely kind, quick, and helpful. The price is appropriate for the quality of the dinner.

The theatre of Marcellus was the largest and most important theatre in Rome and completed in the late 1st century BCE during the reign of Augustus. The architecture of the theatre would become a standard feature of theatres across the empire and influence the façades of such iconic buildings as the Colosseum. The building project was actually begun by Julius Caesar but not completed until the reign of Augustus. In 13 BCE the emperor dedicated the theatre to his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus - son of Octavia and his daughter Julia’s husband - who had been his heir prior to his early death in 23 BCE. To make room for the theatre within the Forum Holitorium the ancient Flaminian Circus was demolished and, along with several other buildings, the 433 BCE temple of Apollo Sosianus was moved a few metres. Today, three columns, the podium and front stairs of the temple can be seen next to the theatre.

Piazza di Spagna, at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, is one of the most famous squares in Rome (Italy). It owes its name to the Palazzo di Spagna, seat of the Embassy of Spain to the Holy See. Nearby is the famed Column of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the middle of the square is the famous Fontana della Barcaccia, dating to the beginning of the baroque period, sculpted by Pietro Bernini and his son, the more famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini. At the right corner of the Spanish Steps rises the house of the English poet John Keats, who lived there until his death in 1821: nowadays it has been changed into a museum dedicated to him and his friend Percy Bysshe Shelley, displaying books and memorabilia of English romanticism. At the left corner there is the Babington's tea room, founded in 1893. The side near Via Frattina is overlooked by the two façades (the main one, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and the side one created by Francesco Borromini) of the Palazzo di Propaganda Fide, a property of the Holy See. In front of it, actually in a lengthening of Piazza di Spagna named Piazza Mignanelli, rises the Column of the Immaculate Conception, erected in 1856, two years after the proclamation of the dogma.

I really recommend the tour that includes the Vatican Museums, the Cappella Sistina and St. Peter's Basilica. St. Peter's Basilica is one of the largest buildings in the world and is the largest of the papal basilicas. Currently St. Peter's Basilica is a building measuring 218 meters long and 136 meters high up to its dome with an area of 23,000 m2. This basilica has been considered an architectural work of great importance both for the size of the facade and for the quality of its work, annually it receives people from different countries of the world who come inside to admire the most beautiful sculptures of all time and appreciate a job that took centuries to build.

The Imperial Forums are a unique architectural complex in the world, consisting of a series of monumental buildings and squares, the center of political activity in ancient Rome, built over a period of about 150 years, between 46 BC. and 113 A.D. In the summer it is also possible to visit them at night, an extremely suggestive walk accompanied by wonderful projections.

Pasquino is the most famous talking statue in Rome, which became a characteristic figure of the city between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. At the foot of the statue, but more often around the neck, sheets containing satire in verse were hung in the night, aimed at anonymously mocking the most important public figures. They were the so-called "pasquinades", from which emerged, not without a certain spirit of challenge, the popular discontent towards power and the aversion to corruption and the arrogance of its representatives. The so-called pasquinades were signs and satirical posters that during the night were preferably hung on the neck of some statues (including Pasquino, hence the name) positioned in frequented places in the city, so that the next morning they could be seen and read. by anyone, before the police of the time removed them.

While the beautiful pedestrian square is being rebuilt, excavations and the conservative restoration of the monument are continuing. The Mausoleum of Augustus is the largest circular funeral monument of ancient times, more than the Mausoleum of Hadrian, today Castel S. Angelo. The visit is possible by booking online and allows you to reconstruct the history of this monument, born as a monumental tomb of the emperor and transformed over the centuries in many ways, from an arena for bullfights and buffaloes, to a church, up to an auditorium for 3500 spectators.

The Altare della Patria is part of the architectural complex of the Vittoriano, built in perfect neoclassical style to celebrate the greatness and majesty of Rome, elected to the role of legitimate capital of Italy, representing the unity of the country and freedom of his people. When you visit you should take the elevators that take you to the Terrazze del Vittoriano, from there you can look at Rome from the above at 360 degrees.

A small archaeological site right in the heart of Rome, a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain. The ticket without a guide is approx € 4 per person, with a guide € 8. The visit is about 45 minutes. It is a very nice place that I recommend to visit.

Superb, beautiful both day and night, as it is well lit. Always crowded with tourists, on the other hand it really deserves and the photos are very suggestive. In the vicinity there are many bars, restaurants, ice cream parlors and typical taverns. One cannot not pass. Unique charm

A beautiful Villa and a very rich gallery of artifacts. It was built in the early 16th century by Agostino Chigi. It was the first suburban villa in Rome. It is famous for the frescoes by Raphael and his school. Today it is part of the complex of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.

Le Guide ai Quartieri

Trastevere, sitting just down the Tiber from the Vatican, is a city within a city; an enclave with its own identity where the locals have generally greeted creeping commercialisation and ongoing attempts at gentrification with a wonderfully Roman disdain, flatly refusing to let such shenanigans impede on the richness of their daily lives. A strong sense of civic pride resides among the Medieval maze of piazzas and cobbled vicoli (alleyways). An old friend of mine, native born to the area, has even turned his back on following the capital’s beloved AS Roma football club and instead spends his weekends rooting for the Trastevere Calcio team (you can find them, should you look hard enough, down in the murky depths of the Italian game’s fourth tier). Not that this is an unwelcoming place. Far from it. Joining in the fun, becoming a part of Trastevere’s great bustling backdrop is easy to do, whether you’re simply sitting on the steps of the Piazza Trilussa or ordering a coffee at the counter of one of the area’s many bars.

The Prati neighborhood offers a quieter and calmer alternative for tourists looking to be well-connected to the sights of Rome without being stuck in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. It is an affluent residential neighborhood that has the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica practically at its doorstep. Because of its close proximity to the Pope’s residence, it also happens to be one of the safest neighborhoods to be in. The Prati area has a fantastic array of shops for travelers to do a little retail therapy. Two famous shopping streets in the area are Via Ottaviano and Via Cola di Rienzo. Up and down Via Ottaviano, you can find all sorts of women's clothing stores and shops specializing in accessories. Whether you're looking for Italian handmade leather boots, a purse, jeans or even gourmet coffee from Castroni, you're bound to find it here on Via Cola di Rienzo. Not too far from Via Cola di Rienzo, in Piazza Cavour, there's the fabulous Enoteca Costantini where you can pick up a fine bottle of Brunello di Montalcino or Morellino di Scansano for your friends and family back home. Lastly, this neighborhood is famous for its mercato all'aperto. The most famous in Rome, the Mercato Trionfale is located in the heart of Prati. Here you can buy freshest fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses with over 200 stalls to choose from.

Rione Monti, Rome’s first ward (rione). The neighborhood for the cool and young, the old and vintage. For those who want a serving of cobblestone, antiques and artisans, with a side order of beauty, great food and the best bars in Rome. Centrally located between Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum, this is The place to while away the afternoon peeking into vintage stores, paging through old books, grabbing coffee in Rome’s chicest cafes, chatting over aperitivo, and people watching at the fountain in Piazza della Madonna dei Monti. A tiny quartiere, it’s a haven between the tourist traps of Via Nazionale and Via Cavour, and much more Roman than the more popular districts like Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Navona. This is working-class Rome, where older couples maintain tradition, even as young entrepreneurs open trendy galleries.

It is a trendy, dynamic and lively district that developed on Monte dei Cocci, a hill created by the accumulation of discarded Roman amphorae. From ancient Rome to the modern age (Aurelian Walls, Pyramid of Cestius, Fascist palaces), it allows you to discover the entire history of the city in a small space.

Located between two stations (Termini and Tiburtina), it is the university and cultural district par excellence. In the area, there are the places where writers such as Moravia and Pasolini sat, the University of La Sapienza, the Verano Monumental Cemetery and the Basilica of San Lorenzo outside the walls. You will finds lots of places where to eat and drink (as in all of Rome after all... 😂).

Museums

MAXXI is a national museum of contemporary art and architecture in the Flaminio neighborhood of Rome. The museum is managed by a foundation created by the Italian ministry of cultural heritage. The building was designed by Zaha Hadid, and won the Stirling Prize of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2010. MAXXI represents an awareness of the importance of promoting the current creative expressions of a nation such as Italy, characterised by centuries of primacy in the artistic and architectural fields. The aesthetic tensions of our time are, in fact, the extension of the artistic and cultural expressions of past eras, albeit through radically different expressive forms. MAXXI’s mission is therefore that of promoting and developing this sense of continuity, projecting it towards the future.

International Cultural Space in Rome. A space where you can admire modern and antique art. Large areas originally part of the convent were restored and opened up to the public, as was the case with the portico on the ground floor, the open gallery on the first floor, the rooms and halls now housing the exhibits, and the various meeting and social function areas, equipped with services such as a reception desk, cafeteria, bistro, workshops and bookshop museum.
