Virginia Falls
~3.6 miles and 525 feet of elevation gain.
~0.8 miles and 160 feet of elevation gain. Baring Falls drops ~25 feet over a rock ledge. After plunging over the ledge, Baring Creek continues flowing for another hundred yards or so before spilling into Saint Mary Lake. American dippers, also known as water ousels are often seen here. The small birds are slate-grey in color and can be seen bobbing, or "dipping", along the rocks around the waterfall, or diving under water in search of food. Once below the surface of the water the dippers forage by either walking along the stream bottom, or by "flying" through the water, using their wings to propel themselves through the swift currents.

~10.1 miles round trip and 4,250 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts at the Lake McDonald Lodge in old growth cedar forest. After the first mile or so you enter a burn from 2017. I recommend getting an early start and bring lots of water, sun protection, and layers. The top can be chilly and once you enter the burn you are very exposed. There can be pesky mountain goats at the top. Please don't feed them, leave food scraps, or pee near the lookout. The goats are attracted to the salt in your urine.
