With 85 acres of parkland boasting a rock garden, complete with many specimen trees and plants, arboretum and exquisite rose gardens, The Crichton offers a stunning location to take a leisurely stroll, walk the dog or have a picnic. Ample parking and no entry fee. It is a favourite place of mine for walk.
During 2018, The Beechgrove Garden was filmed from The Crichton Gardens and attracted a full house to the evening Roadshow in Easterbrook Hall too. The gardens are beautifully maintained by The Crichton Trust gardeners.
The Crichton also features playing fields and an abundance of open spaces which are great for a range of outdoor activities and events. It is free to visit The Crichton Gardens and everyone is welcome.
There is also Easterbrook Bistro, Bar and Spa on the site.
The Bistro is open seven days a week and provides a place to relax, unwind and enjoy great food in a friendly environment.
It also has a swimming pool, steam room and spa offering a wide range of beauty treatments.

Crichton Memorial Church
With 85 acres of parkland boasting a rock garden, complete with many specimen trees and plants, arboretum and exquisite rose gardens, The Crichton offers a stunning location to take a leisurely stroll, walk the dog or have a picnic. Ample parking and no entry fee. It is a favourite place of mine for walk.
During 2018, The Beechgrove Garden was filmed from The Crichton Gardens and attracted a full house to the evening Roadshow in Easterbrook Hall too. The gardens are beautifully maintained by The Crichton Trust gardeners.
The Crichton also features playing fields and an abundance of open spaces which are great for a range of outdoor activities and events. It is free to visit The Crichton Gardens and everyone is welcome.
There is also Easterbrook Bistro, Bar and Spa on the site.
The Bistro is open seven days a week and provides a place to relax, unwind and enjoy great food in a friendly environment.

Worth a mention since it is the largest stone circle to be found anywhere in mainland Scotland and you will most likely drive past it on your way to the cottage. After turning off the A76, opposite Holywood, onto the B729, the circle is found in a field to your left just before the road bends to the right. You can park on the grass near an information boulder just outside entrance to the field.
In the 1800's, a bronze figure of St Norbert, dating from the 12th century , was uncovered at the circle and is now housed in Dumfries Museum.
The Twelve Apostles (of which only 11 remain!!) may not have the grandeur of Stonehenge but is still worth a visit.

Kippford is lovely coastal village, 3 miles from Dalbeattie. There is a car park, a small shop and 2 pubs. I've enjoyed bar lunches in the Anchor (dog friendly). There is a pretty coastal walk (Jubilee Path) that takes you to the small picturesque village of Rockcliffe. I love the small sandy beach at Rockcliffe.
A beautiful beach with amazing rock formations. Lots to explore and some spectacular views across the Solway Firth.
