Neighborhoods

Hope you enjoy checking out the local Toronto neighbourhoods in this list! Each area offers something different and unique. Toronto's history is built on a multitude of cultures, and that is evident as you move through the city and see the influences that the original Torontonians brought to the city.
This is a lively area that gives a nod to its Italian roots. Although it may be more diversified it offers lots of choices for food, drinks and some dancing.

This is the real old Toronto and is affectionately referred to as "Roncee". Great shops, restaurants and bars... it has a cool, hip vibe that is reminiscent of what the city used to be before the condo boom. It's definitely worth the streetcar ride.

There is always something to do in Chinatown as most of the shops are open late as are many of the Chinese restaurants. This is the place to buy your souvenirs, grab a bowl of pho or taste all the flavours of dim sum. Take the streetcar from Dundas all the way over to Spadina and you will land in the middle of all the action.

This is one of my favourite places around Toronto. In the summer time you might confused as to where you are, the scenery is incredible and the beach is perfect for tanning and swimming. In the cooler months there are paths you can walk atop the cliffs and enjoy the endless view of Lake Ontario. The TTC now offers bus service directly to the park.

If you are looking for an easy get away from the hustle of the city, then the islands can't be beat. A quick ferry ride will take you to three points - Hanlans, with the clothing optional beach and many picnic areas, Centre Island with a kids park and family beach at the Southern end of the island and Ward's island with a small residential community and secluded beach that is off the beaten path. *Please check the city of Toronto before venturing off as recent flooding has led to limited access to the island.

Ossington was once a run down street with nothing going for it. Over the past several years this area has realized a renaissance of shops and restos that pleases the hipsters, families and those who just enjoy good shopping and good eats. You will find lots of things to do on this strip between Queen and Dundas Streets. Good eats, local beer or an interesting cocktail, hit up a yoga class or enjoy an ice cream cone on a hot day. This area has it all wrapped up.

This truly is a Toronto staple... it's a long standing restaurant on College, and this says a lot as College sees a lot of turn over. The food is Spanish inspired, and set in an old-world vibe. If this is your thing, then check this place out! And then walk along College to have a drink after at one of the many bars long the strip.

Couldn't get tickets to the game? Then this might be the next best thing... if you like beer and good pub grub. This place is located right next to the AC so if there is a Toronto game you don't have to go far to join in winning celebrations. This place is massive, it's the largest sports bar in the city, however, it is very popular so it's advised to get their early so you can get in, and even earlier if you want a seat.

This established Toronto neighbourhood acquired this name due to the original homesteaders coming from Ireland and Macedonia who used to plant cabbage in their front lawns as a source of food. Now this area boasts a large collection of historical Victorian homes. If this is your thing, then a walk through this area is sure to please. You can finish off your stroll for a meal and a pint at one of the many pubs and restos in the area. Check out the Cabbagetown Street Festival that is held the second week in September every year. You will find local artisans, street food and street performances.

This castle was originally built by Sir Henry Pellatt, a wealthy financier from Toronto. He is most notably remembered for his role in brining hydroelectricity to the city for the first time. At the time of building this home, it was the largest residence in all of Canada. Sadly, at the time of his death he was nearly broke. The home has been restored by the city and now serves as a museum, event venue and historical site. It's truly a breathtaking place to visit offering views of the city skyline and beautiful grounds to enjoy.

One of Toronto's most popular parks and it gets pretty busy in the summer. There are baseball diamonds, dog parks, bike paths and public washrooms are available for the better part of the day. Come down for a picnic and enjoy relaxing in the grass after a long day of shopping along Queen St. During the summer there is a farmer's market every Tuesday from 3-7. Here you can get pre-made food, local cheeses and produce, free range meat to cook your own meal and organic wine/ciders (drinking in public is still illegal so if you are going to do so, be discreet).
