Girard Estate Historic District, once called a “pocket of suburbia” that’s still in the city, is one of Philadelphia’s most secluded neighborhoods - it’s really more like a village of its own.
In South Philly, this residential neighborhood was designed by architects James and John Windrim, whom were hired to create a neighborhood of "ideal city homes". 480 homes were built between 1906 and 1916 in the architectural styles - Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Prairie, Arts & Crafts, Spanish Colonial, and Mission.
The neighborhood has always retained its feel of being a village within a city, a small community with a canopy of tall trees and streets lined with historic architecture.
Girard Estate is one of the safest areas of the city. You can walk to the subway, bus routes, restaurants, shops, pharmacy, supermarket, public parks, sports stadiums and public pool with confidence. The bus is a one block walk and the subway is a four block walk. Philadelphia International Airport is a 10-minute drive. A 15-minute uber/lyft ride gets you to all of the downtown attractions.

Green Spaces & Parks
A 3 block walk to a safe, clean, 1-square-block park for strolling & recreation. In 1797, Stephen Girard purchased more than 500 acres of land in the neighborhood that would one day be named after him. Girard created his summer estate, Gentilhommiere, by 1825 which included the land of what is now Girard Park.
