Sightseeing

Here are a few suggestions to get you out and about and really see some of Timaru. Caroline Bay in particular is surely a compulsory walk along the sand, from the cliff tops to the North of the bay, back along South to the port, and then you may want to hop in your car in order to carry your beach walk along from the East side of the Timaru Public hospital where you can walk South along the sea cliff for stunning first hand cliff over sea views (wear sturdy walking shoes perhaps)
Once you find the aviary you will find many other places to look around, eg the childrens play area, the Sound shell for concerts, the beautiful Caroline Bay for walking along (sea and cliff walk). This walk also takes you up to the C Bay swimming pool and gym complex (heading North)

Visit the Port, check out the beautiful sandy bay, the Rose Garden is a must-see, especially for photography in the summer. There is also a penguin sight-see at dusk (shhhh) visitors must be very still and quiet and view from the road (at the bottom of the Port Loop Road) where the sand meets the sea. Please google the best time of year for viewing. Dress very warm.

Playgrounds, Rose garden, sand, sand and more beautiful sand, great and safe for both adults and children's play. Awesome scenery looking back to the city from standing on the water's edge. Romantic. Walk straight up the concrete steps to lovely bar and cafes (or take the lift up which is by the rose garden...by following the concrete path, its to your left if you have your back to the sea)
