Great places to eat

There are many lovely places to eat in North Norfolk. Here are a few places we recommend.
Walk along the beach for breakfast, past the beach huts at Hunstanton. They have everything from proper full english (including with homemade bubble and squeak) and bacon butties to great vegan combinations. If you are walking the dogs, they are welcome too. Visit the new Lifeboat Station afterwards - you can see the hovercraft - one of only 4 being used in the UK. It saves lives - rescuing people from the marsh and the sand dunes when they fail to keep an eye on the tides and get stranded.

Lovely views across the marsh - ask for a window table. There are few places with a sea view along the coast - so this is really worthwhile. Good local produce - including crab and new potatoes, and beautiful piuddings. You can also book for afternoon tea - perfect after a walk. In summer you can sit outside on the patio. There's also a nice bar with no views, the localpapers and nice scrubbed tables. Pick up a dressed crab for your own dinner at a shop in the village.

Places to visit

Here are some places we love - some on the beaten track - others less visited.
A magical place when the butterflies are on the wing. Even in high season, you can be almost alone at this place where the Iceni defended themselves.

Probably best visited from the carpark the far side of Ringstead, this chalk downland is a lovely change from beach, dunes and sea.

An other worldly feel to this mire, heath and woodland on the Sandringham Estate. Park near Wolferton, and walk through and down onto the bog. In summer at dusk, you'll hear the churring of the nightjar - and maybe see them flit between trees. You may even see glow worms when you walk back through the little wood. Wear your mosquito repellent!

So it turns out that Europe's biggest joke shop isn't that big! It's still a wonderful place for big kids at heart.

When you've had breakfast or another scrummy meal at the Old Boathouse, visit the new boathouse! You can see the RLNI life boat and the hovercraft. The hovercraft enables the crew to rescue people who get straded by the tide or stuck in mud. There are only 4 in use in the UK. Usually open April-September 10am-4pm (weather depending). Take a photo as a lifeboat crew member (even if you are smaller kid) , see the craft and buy some RNLI goodies. They'll also have wise advise on how to stay safe around the water on the Norfolk beaches.

The Wallis brothers rent bikes - and you can have a lovely ride along the coast to Hunstanton and back, or inland on one of the cycleways. They also sell white goods - internet prices with local service! http://www.aewallis.co.uk/
