Guide to the best things in the Nørrebro area

Hip local Nørrebro brewpub, BRUS, is not only for beer-lovers. In many ways, BRUS is what you would expect of a new Nørrebro hotspot. Complete with a brewery, a large and really good looking bar, an ambitious and experimental restaurant and a shop, the brewpub caters for all needs of the hip local crowds. Take a seat in the bar with a quality brew (or more), or in the restaurant which is operated by the talented Christian Gadient - Denmark's youngest Micheling chef. Whether you go to quench your thirst or bury your hunger, BRUS manages to surprise. With 30+ craft beer and kegged cocktails on tap you are guaranteed to try something new. Cozy, vibrant and young at heart Elmegade is a popular and vibrant side street to Nørrebrogade and Sankt Hans Square in Nørrebro. The street buzzes with activity and is known for its small creative boutiques, bars, take away’s and cafes. In Elmegade, the atmosphere is relaxing and cozy - just like in Værnedamsvej and in Jægersborggade. I would recommend that you visit the small jewelry shop Cappalis, which have gorgeous payable things. The lady in the shop is also always very nice, smilling and helpful.

If you're into 2hand, the Nørrebrogade/Elmegade area is a place for you. I would recommend the shop PRAG. Website: http://pragcopenhagen.com/prag-norrebro/ It describes itself as: "PRAG is the name of two second-hand/vintage shops based in Copenhagen – one is in the area of Vesterbro and the other is in Nørrebro. The stores take inspiration from classic vintage shops in urban capitals such as Berlin and New York and all goods are collected abroad. PRAGS’ assortment is chosen based on current and future trends, but you can always find a hefty selection of casual everyday clothes, extravagant dresses, shoes and custom-made accessories. In addition, the stores have a large range of tights, bow ties, jewelry, petticoats (for both children and adults), bags and lots of other items to style up the vintage treasures."

Go to Kronborggade and find the little "BAR"-sign in front of the pub. Kornborggade 3 is a locale pub. You can meet all type of people here, but the guests are most often older university student in the mid/late twenties. The pub is small and it can be quite crowded -but it is my favourite pub non the matter. As a classic small danish pub, they allow smoking at Kronborggade 3

TIP: During the summertime approximately at 11:45 (am) you will also be able to see the The King's Watch ceremoni. See description below. The King's Watch (Kongevagt) - ceremoni: Every day at noon, you can watch the change of guards in the court yard. When HM the Queen is in residence, the ceremony is called The King's Watch (Kongevagt) and the guards are accomopanied by the Royal Guards music band. The route, that starts at 11:31 at the barracks, goes: Rosenborggade, Købmagergade, Østergade, Kongens Nytorv, Bredgade, Sct. Annæ Plads, Amaliegade, and Amalienborg. If one of the Royal Princes is residing at the palace in the capacity of regents, the parade is called The Lieutenant Watch, and drums and flutes will be heard. In other cases (when the palace is not inhabited or the princes are at home but not in the capacity of regent) the Guards march through Copenhagen without music accompaniment, and the route is shorter. This watch is called The Manor Watch. https://changing-guard.com/changing-guard-worldwide/copenhagen-denmark.html

In old days, Nyhavn was a place for sailors coming to Copenhagen, and the port was splited in two parts - one “naughty”, and one “nice” side. Nowadays Nyhavn - known for its picturesque harbour with old sailing ships bobbing on the canals’ water, and colourful facades of old houses. However, Nyhavn is still popular among the locals, who as soon as weather permits occupy numerous outdoors bars and restaurants by the canal. Others prefer to spend time simply sitting by the waterfront and chatting over some beers. Today, on this formerly gloomy side of the street, the atmosphere is always cosy and familiar. The famous Danish writer H. C. Andersen wrote his first fairy tale in the house number 20 down the harbour in 1835; he ended his life in the house number 18. In between, he lived nineteen years in the number 67

Tivoli Garden is actually an amusement park - but is just as much known for its theme and decoration. Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843 and has become a national treasure and an international attraction. Fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen visited many times, as did Walt Disney and many other celebrities, who all fell in love with the gardens. Part of Tivoli Gardens' secret is that there is something for everyone. The scenery is beautiful with exotic architecture, historic buildings and lush gardens. At night, thousands of colored lights create a fairy tale atmosphere that is completely unique. The rides are all designed to match Tivoli's architecture and gardens. Some rides are wonderfully nostalgic. Others will match the expectations of the keenest thrill seekers. Tivoli’s oldest and most popular ride, the wooden Roller Coaster from 1914, is one of only seven roller coasters worldwide which have a brakeman on board every train. Experience the Tivoli Food Hall where you will find some of the city's best eateries, along with some exciting and brand, new food concepts. As a guest, you will be able to choose from a range of tempting gastronomic offerings and you can satisfy your thirst with high-quality beverages. Tivoli Food Hall is located at the Tivoli Corner Building opposite the Central Station with free access from the street. Tivoli Food Hall is open all year. Located in the former Naval barracks in Copenhagen, Nyboder is a row-house district and a major tourist attraction. Built with an aim to provide accommodation to the families of the rapidly growing Royal Danish Navy and their families, this housing district was first built by Christian IV. Originally painted in red and white, today these houses are referred to as "Nyboder Yellow" due to the different hues of yellow. Over the years, Nyboder has housed enlisted personnel of the Danish Navy, Army and Air Force but starting 2006, this housing was open to civilians as well. Attractions here include: Nyboder's Church, Edouard Suenson Memorial, and Christian IV statue. Near the Kings Garden and the Little Mermaid

Christiania is a neighborhood in Copenhagen that declared itself as a free state within Denmark. It was founded by the hippies in the beginning of the seventies and most of the houses are former military barracks. The freetown is different and spectacular. It’s a bohemian neighborhood filled with street art, artists and vagabonds. You will find something interesting to see around every corner. Nowadays Christiania is also known for Pusher Street: Even thought hash is illegal in Denmark, you will see a huge amount of small shops selling it. Do not take pictures of this, the people doesn't like it. However, Christiania is a harmless place and feel free to take pictures of the houses and the art.
