Useful Information

Sainsbury’s is nearby (5 min walk/nice café) and is open till 10pm every night Monday till Saturday. It closes at 4pm on a Sunday but there are other corner shops. (Tesco express in town centre, local convenience stores such as Ken Warnes) Darlington is a town famous for railways – the first public railway to use steam locomotives went from Darlington to Stockton in 1825. The Railway Museum is worth a visit if trains are of interest to you (also a café there) Other guests have found it useful to know: Theatre cast/workers = Free gym/swim pass to local leisure centre (The Dolphin Centre);ask at the Stage door 20% off food at the theatre café (tell them you are working at the Hippodrome) Lovely local parks – South Park with band stand, duck pond and café if you enjoy walking/running Vue Cinema nearby (tickets £4.99) The town Centre is full of smaller, more unique shops/wine bars/gin bars etc (try ‘Guru’ or ‘Legs’ and the variety of second hand/charity shops where you can find bargains!) Crombies Café is good for a basic lunch. Durham City is only a 20 minute journey on the train and there’s plenty to see there if you want a day out.
