Our favorite restaurants, wineries and shops

There are many wonderful restaurants, shops, wineries, farms, and outdoor activities in the Anderson Valley. Boonville has a colorful history. Boonville even has its own language, developed long ago by the local teens, called “Boontling”! Check out the article provided to you at the house for some rich history on this quirky, beautiful town. In the town of Boonville (out of the driveway, turn left on Mountain View Road and right at the end onto 128 and into the town), you will find some great restaurants, wineries, a world renowned brewery, an operating sheep and goat cheese making farm, and much more. Read on for some highlights in Boonville and the surrounding area:

Boonville General Store

Across from the big red Boonville Hotel (which has a great restaurant which serves a local prix fixe meal certain nights and also has a small shop selling local goods) is the Boonville General Store. You won’t find better home baked bread than here, but you have to arrive early to get it. Ask for a wheat loaf to bring home for dinner. Breakfasts here are the best around, with a variety of eggs, scones, homemade granola and tasty pastries. Arrive early to get their in-season fruit scones. I usually head here when they open and pick up some to take back to the house. They will be gone before you know it! The General Store also serves great farm-to-table lunches, but is not open for dinner.

For awesome, local farm to table fare in a beautiful country house setting, head farther west on 128 into Navarro, where you will find the incomparable Bewildered Pig (1810 CA-128, Philo, CA). Truly anything here is amazing, and they serve local wines and beers with top-notch service. The owners are chefs and gardeners, and make sure to check out the surrounding gardens.

Foresight Wines (14475 CA-128, Boonville, CA)– at the east end of Boonville, just as you enter the town on your left is a lovely family-owned small batch winery which makes its wines sustainably. Amazing Sauvignon Blancs, light whites and Pinot Noirs. These are award-winning wines and Joe in the tasting room is an absolute wealth of knowledge on wine-making in general and the Anderson Valley terroir. Tell Kristy and Joe we said hello!

Foresight Wines (14475 CA-128, Boonville, CA)– at the east end of Boonville, just as you enter the town on your left is a lovely family-owned small batch winery which makes its wines sustainably. Amazing Sauvignon Blancs, light whites and Pinot Noirs. These are award-winning wines and Joe in the tasting room is an absolute wealth of knowledge on wine-making in general and the Anderson Valley terroir. Tell Kristy and Joe we said hello!

Baxter Winery Tasting Room

Baxter Winery (8660 CA-128, Philo, CA) – Beautiful tasting room in Philo. Phil Baxter and his wife run the place and are lovely folks to chat with about local wines. They make their wines sustainably and they are awesome. Excellent whites and Pinot Noirs.

Anderson Valley Brewing Co

An award winning brewery that any beer fanatic will instantly recognize, we are lucky to have this brewery right here in our small town of Boonville. Check out the low key tasting room, with an outdoor area which sometimes features local musicians, and several acres on which you can enjoy a fun game of Frisbee Golf. Don’t know what that is? Go there and ask! They also have a massive-sized Jenga game on the outdoor tables. Fun for grownups and older kids as well.
