Restaurants (waterfront)

The places to eat are endless in St. Augustine, but here are a few of my "don't miss" spots. If you're craving something particular, don't hesitate to shoot me a text or call. I'm happy to help you find the perfect spot.
Waterfront and accessible by boat. Go early, enjoy the sunset on the dock while waiting for a table while the kids run on the shoreline or climb the tree. Reservations not accepted. After 5pm the wait gets long and parking gets crowded. They do have a dedicated parking lot. I love everything they have, from appetizers, burgers to seafood! 4325 MYRTLE STREET, SAINT AUGUSTINE, FL, 32084 Phone: (904) 824-8794

Great spot on the water. You can request a table in the Tiki Hut over the water. A great bar at the end of the walkway. You can also access this restaurant by boat. So it's very casual. Dedicated parking but does get busy, note there are parking lots on both sides of the restaurant. Reservations not accepted, go early :) 57 Comares Ave, St. Augustine, FL 32080 Phone: (904) 829-8646

The ambiance and view is perfect at River & Fort. Eat outback near the firepit with a limited menu or on rooftop for amazing water views. Dine inside for a more quaint experience to enjoy the view. I love the “fried green tomatoes” a unique take but quite delicious.

PRIVATE SURF LESSONS AT THE CONDO: Call a few days ahead. Be sure to ask if they'll come to the condo. Windjammer is so close to Surf Station 2, if the instructor has the right vehicle, they don't mind coming to the condo. Just ask for an instructor that can come to the condo. We paid $50 per kid for 1.5 hours and my kids loved it. They have several locations so make sure they know you are in Crescent Beach. Private or group surf lessons. They also have surf camps which my daughter enjoyed but the private lessons are great for a few days if you're only here for a week. Don't forget to ask them to come to the condo. It's a nice plus for our location!

A bit of History

Endless history but a few spots that I think are pretty neat.
Self-guided tour with canon performance at certain times. Walk through the fort and listen to various videos in the different rooms that interest. Fort is surrounded by a huge grassy area that the kids will definitely be inspired to run around or roll down a hill.

Free! so it's top of my to-do list and just a few minutes from the condo. Take a short ferry boat ride to the Matanzas Fort. Free admission (donations accepted). While it's a small fort, it's fun to take the short ferry ride over. Go a little early, you can get a ticket and then walk the trails. The ferry leaves every hour on the half hour but has limited spots for each trip. Times: 9:30am-4: 30 pm - they do have a short film you can watch while you wait.

A bit scary to learn some of these facts, but don't miss out. This historic jail served the city of St. Augustine from 1891-1953. Visitors can take tours of the jail during the day or night, experiencing history as inmates in period dress guide them through the women’s cells, men’s cells, and the maximum security cells where only the most dangerous criminals were kept. The Old Jail's unique history is full of fascinating stories about individual inmates that once occupied the cells and the sheriffs (and their families!) who lived just across the hall from them. Tours depart every 20 minutes from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. every day, and night tours of the Old Jail are offered as part of the Ghosts and Gravestones tour. Sun - Sat: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm $12.99 adult $6.99 child 167 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine, FL, 32084 (904) 829-3800

Here's a tip: You will receive a sticker as your "ticket" when you buy a tour ticket. The sticker is good for your whole trip, so I recommend doing the tour early in your vacation and splitting the tour up. This is a hop on and off tour. You learn a lot about old St. Augustine on this tour, it's a great relaxing way to learn a lot of interesting facts. Here's my recommendation for the perfect way to do the tour. The tour can be lengthy but if you hop on and off, you can easily split it up and save some walking. Ride the Trolley through the oldest part of St. Augustine and learn a bit about the oldest city. Here’s a great interactive map of the stops: https://www.trolleytours.com/st-augustine/map PARK: at Potter’s Wax Museum (it’s free if you’re buying a trolley ticket) or the Visitor’s Center (Stop 3 on the trolley tour) and get your tickets or go online. https://www.trolleytours.com/st-augustine Discount prices or coupons online – or pick up a Big Fat Coupon Book from downstairs office (or at the visitor center) (10 S Castillo Dr, St. Augustine, FL 32084). http://www.citystaug.com/visiting/start_your_visit_here/index.php I suggest ENDING the Trolley tour somewhere between; Stop 15 (Cathedral Basillica) Stop 16 (The black Raven/ Bayfront Golf) Stop 17 (Oldest Schoolhouse) or Stop 18 (Castillo de San Marcos/near bridge of Lions), after this stop the tour goes down a little out of walking distance to your car. TIP: I love starting the week with the Old Town Trolley because you can use your sticker (boarding pass) for the entire week. So, don’t throw it away. You can hop on and off the trolley anytime and it’s a great way to start with a little history about the area and so many things to do. LUNCH OPTIONS OFF TROLLEY TOUR: Lunch options (there are so many great places to eat) depending on when you’re hungry or what you want to eat – but here are a few of my favorites: Burger Buckets (Stop 4 or 5) or 5 min. walk from the visitor’s center where you parked – if you’re already hungry and want to eat before you get too far (3 Cordova St, St. Augustine, FL 32084) Hypolita St & St. George (Stop 8) – The Hyppo (gourmet popsicles) or Café del Hidalgo (gelato) and hop back on. Café Alcazar (this is my favorite) (Stop 11 at Lightner Museum) TIP: call for reservations when on the trolley. 25 Granada St, St. Augustine, FL 32084 The Ice Plant (Stop 12 w/Distillery Tour) - Lunch 11:30am-2:30pm, Monday thru Friday. Dinner is served 5-10pm everyday. Brunch is served Saturday and Sundays from 10:00am-2:00pm. Happy hour cocktails are served from 2:30-5pm, Monday thru Friday and from 10pm-close Sunday through Thursday. Pizza Time (mid-way down George Street) (Stop 15 or get off at Stop 5 and walk down if you feel like shopping first). 124 St George St, St. Augustine, FL 32084 TASTING TOURS OFF TROLLEY: Hop back on, you’re at Stop 11 (3 options, you could do them all - if you like a busy pace – or just one, after all you’re on vacation and there’s always next time get off at: (Stop 12) St Augustine Distillery free tour (every 30 minutes) – if you didn’t eat and getting hungry after the Distillery tour (attached to the Distillery is The Ice Plant and it has amazing food and unique cocktails) Ice Plant: Lunch 11:30am-2:30pm, Monday thru Friday. Dinner is served 5-10pm everyday. Brunch is served Saturday and Sundays from 10:00am-2:00pm. Happy hour cocktails are served from 2:30-5pm, Monday thru Friday and from 10pm-close Sunday through Thursday. (Stop 13) San Sebastian Winery for a free tour and tasting. Complimentary Tours and Wine Tasting run about every 20-25 minutes, lasting approximately 45 minutes in length and offered seven days a week, (except for major holidays). Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tours end at 6pm, but fun place to go back to in the evening - The Cellar upstairs opens for music, apps, and drinks on the rooftop outside with a view of city (free parking). (Stop 14) Whetstone Chocolate Factory (45-55 min – this one is not free) advance booking may be required – call while you’re having lunch - 904-217-0275 – but parking is free so if you can’t get in you can always go another day. Rates: Adults - $8 / Juniors(Ages 5-17) - $5.50 / Children(Under 5) - Free SHOPPING STOPS: Stroll down St. George Street, lots of shopping spots. (Stop 15) Cathedral Basilica of St Augustine (just walk in for a self-tour and enjoy the beauty) then stroll over and walk down St George Street, lots of shops and fun things to see. FOOD: on/near George Street: Prohibition Kitchen, Pizza Time (readymade pizza by the slice) Spanish Bakery & Café (quick grab and go), Auggie’s Mini Donuts, Café Del Hidalgo (love the gelato!), Odd Birds (fun cocktails), Catch 27 (opens 11am, make reservation, they’ll even text you when your table is ready so you can keep taking in the sights) and Cellar 6 (opens @ 3pm, may need reservation). Check out Colonial Oak Music Park for evening music/bands. Toward end of St George, tour the “Oldest Schoolhouse”, check it out & now you’re at the end of George St and back near your car / if you parked at Visitor’s Center or Potter’s Wax Museum, you’re near your car). READY FOR DINNER: Drive across the Bridge of Lions and stop at the Black Fly (another one of my favorite restaurants) or Conch House (waterfront). Doesn’t look like you’re thing, try Mellow Mushroom or Osteen’s. What a fun day – now back to the condo to relax on the dock, down on the beach or listening to the waves from the balcony! Now you have your sticker/boarding pass to go another day - take the tour again and make some different stops or finish the tour. You may want to get on at Stop 18 and start with the fort and then jump on the trolley to learn some more cool facts about the city.

Restaurants

There are so many unique restaurants in St. Augustine. Sicilian food that makes you think you left St. Augustine to a simple diner that makes you feel like you're on the Food Network or a spot just walking distance down the road and then an amazing date night deal that you can't pass up to save the budget a bit. ENJOY!
LUNCH! This is one of my favorite lunch spots. The tomato bisque is my favorite. It's located behind the Lightner Museum. Café Alcazar is an elegant eatery situated in the space of the Lightner Museum originally designated for the largest indoor swimming pool. ...and they take reservations, so call ahead.

Food is fine dining quality at a reasonable price: $$ OPEN LUNCH & DINNER Seafood & Steaks This is a favorite restaurant when we're not going to be downtown or waterfront (it's off 312). Ask for bread before the meal but careful not to fill up - yum! The prices can't be beaten for the quality of food! Happy Hour: (from opening until 7 pm) 2 for 1 draft beer, house wine, and mixed drinks I love the fish of the day with the Glow sauce. My husband loves their steak. Everything is delicious here and so fresh! Another popular item is the Bang Bang Shrimp (Datil Peppers are native to St. Augustine). Lots of parking, but call ahead for a table in the evenings. BEST DINER! As seen on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! My favorites are Chicken and Waffles with the Strawberry Butter or Shrimp and Grits like you've never had before. I always order my grit "cake" on the side instead of in the sausage, shrimp sauce. This way it reheats well because I never finish it. Oh so delicious!

Easy access, lots of parking, make reservation. If you're craving Italian - this is the place. Love it all and the "feel like family" welcoming when you walk in the front door is an extra bonus! "Casa Benedetto's proudly continues our traditions of fresh authentic Sicilian cuisine prepared from scratch that we learned to appreciate growing up in the warm environment of a large Italian family. Many pleasant hours went by in Grandma's kitchen helping to ready the huge holiday feasts we fondly remember. Rice balls, braisole, manicotti, pasta fagioli, escarole & beans, and clam sauce over linguini made from freshly shucked clams are just a few of our favorite dishes served at Casa Benedetto's. Our homemade desserts come from the original recipes used in the bakery Grandpa Benedetto & Grandma Maria owned in Brooklyn. Tiramisu, cheesecake, cannolis, Italian cookies & biscotti are available by order. Holiday specialties like struffla, cream puffs & ricotta grain pie continue to bring joy to many customers who are familiar with these hard to find items. At Casa Benedetto's we strive to make each guest's visit memorable. We love to take requests for special dishes which are not on the menu and cater to special dietary needs. As we prepare our food to order we can adjust seasoning, make dishes meat-free for vegetarians, and even have whole grain and gluten free pasta available." “casabenedettos” 165 Vilano Road Saint Augustine, FL 32084

A bit of a drive (1 hr) but if you're here for more than a week, it's worth the drive! or if you're craving amazing barbeque take the drive anyway, if you go the back way, take 206 to county road 13 it's a beautiful drive along the river. Some sides are datil infused. What's a datil? Datil peppers are native to St. Augustine and a unique flavor from simply sweet to different levels of heat. Sooo good! Woodpeckers often run out of food late in the day - once they are out - they are out - so go earlier in the day / before 5pm or if you look at the menu online and call ahead - they'll put your food aside and save it for you - then you don't have to worry about making the drive and missing out. https://woodpeckersbbq.weebly.com/menu.html 904.531.5670 4930 State Road 13 Jacksonville, Florida 32093

Cocktails & Craft Beer

Location: *Dedicated Parking (Historical area / Riberia Street) By far our favorite cocktail spot! They have a way of taking your favorite drinks to a new level. Don't hesitate to try something new, just give them a few tips on what you generally like and watch them create. The food is amazing too! It's a Win! Win! Ice is an integral component of a well-made drink. Our mission is to return to the craft of ice harvesting by freezing purified water in large blocks. Our bartenders can make drinks colder and with precisely the desired amount of dilution. Located above the Distillery (which gives tours during the day). This place makes drinks so fun. Brian and I love to sit at the bar and watch the drinks being made. Don't hesitate for a quieter moment to go on the small deck off the back bar. You are not served on the deck, but you can take your drink or food out there. The food is absolutely amazing, never had anything we didn't like.

Location: *Dedicated parking (HIstorical area on King Street) Bog Brewing Company opened its doors in March 2016 and since has grown in lockstep with the Northeast Florida craft beer scene. The draft list features seasonally influenced Belgian, English and American-style ales. Head Brewer and Co-Owner Steve Mendoza leverages his years of experience in the craft beer scene as well as his travels overseas to inform and inspire the beers he creates. Visitors can enjoy a unique selection of seasonal beers, like the Smoked Datil Ale, brewed with locally sourced hot peppers, or the Blueberry Wild Ale, which features a mixed fermentation that develops the unique floral and farm-fresh flavors. We may not have all of your favorite beers on at all times, as we're constantly rotating half of the draft list, but we feel that's half the fun of the American craft beer scene--new beers and new experiences. Darts, board games and even a fire pit nice for cooler months.

It’s new, it’s exciting… it’s the Tini Martini Bar at the Casablanca Inn. Now enjoy a selection of martinis al fresco as you relax overlooking Matanzas Bay on the verandah, or inside at our cozy bar or private tables. Wine lovers will enjoy our selection of vintages by the glass, and several fine single malt Scotch choices. And beer afficinados won’t be disappointed either, with many distinctive brews to choose from. Relax at our St. Augustine Bar and be sure to join us at the “Tini”.
