Food Scene

Wonderful location, it’s a bit pricey but expected, the food is delicious, the margaritas are realy good, the desserts heavenly and of course, the service is equally great!

This well-run establishment is housed in what was originally a bank building. Many of the (exquisite) fixtures, walls and offices have been retained with minimal modification to create delightful smaller areas in which to enjoy a drink and a meal. The original purpose of each space is indicated by a plaque bearing the name of what it had been in the past. An area at the back of the 'banking hall' is called the Robert Service room and bears a great deal of history about the man and his life. Robert Service, apart from being a prolific writer of poems, was also a banker and was employed in this very bank. It is worth a visit just to see this piece of Canadian history.

Victoria was the supply center for the gold rush and grew to become British Columbia’s largest city before the birth of Vancouver in the 1880's. Victoria’s Chinatown was the home base for thousands of Chinese. Some established their own stores, restaurants, laundries and farms. In the city, some worked as gardeners, servants and cooks in the homes of non-Chinese. Outside the city, many worked for others in the gold fields, coal mines, logging camps and fish canneries. For many years, Victoria had the largest Chinese population in Canada. Today, its Chinese population is small in comparison to other cities, but Victoria will always be known for being home to Canada’s oldest Chinatown.
