El Paisa and Paisa II are the best tacos place you can find in the town. It is good price, good taste, and fast service. It is very local place and may not be the most clean and fancy one. It is a little left front of Mercado Hidalgo if you put Mercado behind you. If you want some tacos in Guanajuato, that is the place to go (because street tacos in Guanajuato are actually not that good!)

Drinks & Nightlife

In guanajuato, mezcal, purque, and tequila are the three drinks should be tried. Fante is one place of good purque and good price. The special drink elefante rosa/azul/verde is a mix of few kinds of alcohol and only costs 35 pesos.

It is place for dancing Salsa. If you do not know Salsa, don't worry! There are many mexicans are willing to teach you and invite you for dance. I think it is more effective than the Salsa classes in the town. It is open until 5am.

Shopping

The second floor sells all kinds of gifts from 15 pesos small gifts to 250 handcrafts. I personally like the mugs they are selling. It is very cheap (40 pesos about?) and unique designed. There is also a place sell coin purse that you can put your name or your friend name on it. However, Guanajuato is a late city. The food market is opened early on the first floor, but there aren't many stores opened before noon on the second floor!

Essentials

Well it is just normal supermarket and no much to say about it. It is definitely not the cheapest. You can get cheaper food in Mercado hidalgo or local meat/veggie stores. However, it does look cleaner the food( I doubted it is actually cleaner). Or there is only one other supermarket Mega which is outside of town --- that means you need to take a bus or taxi to go there. It is not far walk to Mega but you have to walk underground or pass through some residential area that easily to get lost. Thus, locationwise, comercial Mexicana is a good place to buy grocery.

Sightseeing

There is always, always something going on in the Jardin. Even if you just sit around there the whole day, you won't get bored.

Parks & Nature

Santa Rosa is a nearby town from Guanajuato that is famous for it is beautiful lake and home made Mezcal. From Alhondiga, there is a bus(15 pesos) leaving for Santa Rosa. It should take about 20 mins to arrive the entrance of the town. From there, it will be an hour or two walk/hike to the lake. You do not need a map or GPS. You can ask people how to get to la Presa as you walk. Some homes sell home made Mezcal (50 pesos a small bottle) and it is pretty good quality. You can also buy fruits and snacks on the way as you climb.
