About 30 min. away from your airbnb, this state park offers some great natural views with lake fishing and boating, hiking biking and horse riding trails, and my personal favorite: cross-country ski trails!

Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens has both indoor and outdoor tropical gardens and exhibitions, so they are a great place to visit and enjoy year around! Think indoor tropical escape during winter, AND outdoor winter wonderland with Christmas lights around Christmas. They are the third largest Conservatory in Illinois. They do have a Bistrot open from 11-2 for lunch and coffee.
I believe they do a lot of activities that kids wold love too, such as live bird expositions and 45 min tour through the conservatory. Fair warning, the indoor conservatory tours do require purchasing tickets. You can check out their website at nicholasconservatory.com

This is a great place for families in the fall! Currently you can pick your own pumpkins, buy their apples, fresh made apple cider and apple cider donuts! Pumpkin picking is going until "weather turns cold and makes the pumpkins go soft". They close for the season on November 25th.

If you like biking or hiking, this is a must. The Pecatonica Prairie Path trail is 29.5 miles long, connecting Freeport and Rockford with your Winnebago airbnb being pretty close to the center of the trail. Parking and entrance to the trail is at Memorial park in Winnebago, and about a 7 min bike ride, or 4 min drive away.
