Great place to eat--arrive early because everyone loves this place. Otherwise you'll have a wait--but it's worth it. Free Coffee while you wait—try their Piñon Pine Coffee! Better yet, grab a package on your way out to fix when you get home and are missing those cool, quiet unhurried mornings sitting out on the back deck at La Petit Cottage watching the beauty of Mother Nature!

Love the Log Cabin for pancakes! They're a little sweet, but I like them that way. Have eggs and bacon (Their #1 Pancake Sandwich--I believe that's what it's called). Friendly service, good food, but come early or you'll have a wait.

Some of the best steaks in town! We love the Flat Iron ($24.99)--yep, it's a little pricey, but it's more than enough to split. Great for special occasions. In the summer and late spring try eating out on the patio. They do take reservations.

Decor has been updated to showcase the history of Ruidoso Downs Horse Racing and the Village of Ruidoso.

Great little place for soup and sandwiches. Parking maybe a little tight especially during lunch on the weekend. Enjoyable for a good

The Cork and Kettle is one of my favorite little finds in Ruidoso. This little gourmet shop serves coffee, does wine tastings, and will even fix you a snack tray while you sample a glass of wine and play checkers. Laid back, fun place to meet friends, try some wine and shop for serendipitous finds!

Essentials
Interesting enough, Walgreen's has the cheapest prices for milk, and it's good! We always stop here on our way to the Cottage to pick up milk and little essentials. It's a lot quicker to get into/out of than Wal-Mart.

In my opinion Albertsons in Ruidoso combines the best of the local deli/bistro/flower shop and well stocked grocery store. Albertsons bought out United and their subsidiaries (Amigos & Market Street) and have done a wonderful job making this store into a mini Market Street. Good selections, great produce and meat. Being that Ruidoso is fairly remote and a little village, prices are a little higher than Wal-Mart, but not totally outrageous.

What to Pack
The weather in Ruidoso seasonally adjusts, but something we've found helpful is to always pack/dress in "Layers". In the spring and summer, while it may be warm during the day, nights can be surprisingly chilly sometimes. So I suggest packing a light sweater/shaw/wrap just in case. You can drape it over your shoulders during the day and as night falls wrap it around your shoulders to fight off a chill while eating outside, watching nature on the deck, or star gazing. The same goes for Fall and Winter; bring something slightly heavier: favorite sweatshirt/hoodie/vest/jacket.
