Neighbourhoods
We are lucky to be situated on a cherished part of the Trans Canada Trail. Many people drive down to park, just to walk this part of the trail. From our place one only has to walk up to Renita Ridge Drive and turn left. Walk all the way down through the play park to the back stairs and preferably turn right and cross the bridge. There are a lot of side trails to explore here as well. We tend to walk through to the next bridge. Just turn right after the 1st bridge and follow the trail to the 2nd bridge. After crossing the 2nd bridge, there is a side trial to your right which takes one up to ‘Village Way’ (another subdivision) on Cassino Drive. Walk through and one will come to the beginning of Renita Ridge and then turn left down our street to home base. (About a 30-45 minute walk). If you continue on the main trail up the hill (after the 2nd bridge), you can walk all the way to Cowichan Lake. A lot of people ride their bikes from here and put them on the bus coming home. It’s quite tremendous! If you turn left after the 1st bridge and walk through Keystone Avenue there is a side trail where you may encounter ‘Pete the Peacock’ or get to the hospital on their side trail. Brilliant.

This is a recreational lake that hosts camping, swimming and the starting off point to the famous Pacific Marine Circle Route to Port Renfrew. For this route one would take Highway 18 and keep left of of Cowichan Lake. For the famous Carmanah Walbran one would take Hwy 18 but stay to the right of Cowichan Lake. Both roads turn into logging roads but are spectacular to see. Carmanah Valley is where there were the famous 1993 Clayquot Sound Logging Protests. ‘Midnight Oil’ was made famous for playing for the protestors here. It was world wide news and quite dramatic

This is a wonderful historic museum of our logging trains and a chance to ride one. They have wonderful events around the holidays. A family favourite. Once in you can take the train as much as you like and explore what our local history is regarding one of our biggest exports. Great fun for kids. Bring a picnic or eat in the field or another stop.
