Wadi Rum is a large desert located in southern Jordan. Wadi Rum is most well-known for its uniquely shaped mountains that rise out from the orange, pink desert sand valleys. Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times who have left behind their mark in the form of rock art, petroglyphs, ancient inscriptions and archaeological sites. In 2011, Wadi Rum Protected Area was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Nabatean Temple The Nabatean Temple ruins with columns and adjacent residence and luxury bath complex. Lawrence Spring Climb the rocky path to the small spring for fantastic views across the valley Red Sand Dune Steep sand dune formed against a large rock formation, the climb to the top provides 360′ valley views and the run down the dune is great fun. Khazali Canyon Narrow canyon with walls covered in ancient inscriptions, petroglyphs. Little Rock Bridge Small arch climb to the top for valley views. Lawrence House A short scramble up the rocks takes you to a beautiful lookout point. Mushroom Rock Large eroded rock formation in the shape of a mushroom Abu Khashaba Canyon A walk through this canyon takes about half an hour. Your guide waits for you on the other side. Um Fruth Rock Bridge A unique arch – dare to climb to the top of the arch (around 15m high) Chicken Rock Large eroded rock formation in the shape of a chicken. While many bedouin choose to live in Wadi Rum Village (the only permanent settlement within the Protected Area), there are bedouin families living a nomadic life raising livestock in the desert. Bedouin who live in Wadi Rum and surrounding villages depend mainly on tourism and livestock raising as income. You can explore our desert by bedouin jeep, camel and there are endless hiking and scrambling possibilities due to many canyons and peaks in the area.
