City/town information
Only a 20 minute drive from Georgetown Lake, Anaconda is a historic mining town. Anaconda was once one of the largest cities in Montana. The town has numerous historic buildings, including the gorgeous Washoe Theatre (which is now the local movie venue) and there are historical bus tours during the summer. Anaconda has numerous restaurants, coffee shops, bars and a brewery. Smelter City Brewery is in a beautiful historic building with outdoor space and a taco truck. The Revolver is a great lounge to have a cocktail or beer.
There are also clothing boutiques and small local gift shops downtown.
Old Works golf course is a gorgeous Jack Nicklaus course that pays tribute to Anacondas mining heritage. There are also many hiking, walking, biking trails in and around town. The main paved trail goes through Washoe Park. Along with the walking trails, Washoe Park offers multiple plagrounds and a summer-only swimming pool. Just outside town you will find Fairmont Hot Springs resort with indoor and outdoor pools.

Sightseeing
Georgetown Lake is perfect for summer & ice fishing and boating. There are multiple boat launches and day use areas all around the lake. They are great for picnics! In the summertime be sure to check out Moose Marina (located near Grassy Point Boat Launch) for your convenience store needs. They also rent kayaks!
If you drive up Southern Cross road you will find the Georgetown Ghost Town, St. Timothy's church (which hosts summer concerts) and gorgeous views of the lake.
In the winter you have quick, easy access to downhill & cross country skiing at Discovery Ski Area. There is also a massive network of groomed snowmobile trails.

I highly recommend having an Anaconda-Pintler map and bear spray, which you can buy at Pintler's Portal Hostel in Anaconda. The Pintler Ranger Station in Philipsburg will also provide detailed information about the area and other (shorter, easier) hikes not in the wilderness.

This lovely little candy shop has an impressive selection of rare and interesting candies. They are widely known for their fudge and taffy, which is made on site. They are not open Saturdays.

Playgrounds in nearby Anaconda and Philipsburg
Anaconda and Philipsburg have multiple playgrounds. My kids love the school playground in Philipsburg and Washoe Park in Anaconda. In the summer, Washoe Park has a heated public pool with low cost entrance fee.
Benny Goodman park in Anaconda has a small skate park, baseball field & playground.

Pack comfortable shoes & clothes
You will want sneakers, hiking shoes, winter boots and sandals in the summer. This is a more rugged environment. Dirt roads, rocky beaches along the lake and lots of snow in the winter.
You will want to pack layers! Mornings & evenings are cool and midday will be warm, but possibly windy.

Bring a variety of outdoor gear and snacks/picnic.
You will be out and about most of the day. It's a great idea to bring all of your recreation equipment to give you options. There are limited food options at the lake (two restaurants, both of which can be very busy on the weekends) and having your own snacks and picnic lunch is a great idea.
