Dunedin was NZ's first city, its population and wealth in the 1870's & 80's spawned by gold in Central Otago and then sheep.
Consequently there are numerous historic buildings in the city & residences. In the suburbs above the city there are spectacular views of the harbour & Otago Peninsular.
Its a small city so very easy to navigate though public transport is infrequent.
Being a University town it remains vibrant and youthful with good bars, pubs, local music, art galleries etc
