Food Scene

We are so in love with these cupcakes! They come in unique flavors like PB&J and banana cake with peanut butter frosting (they even have 2 vegan options!) but our favorite is the Salty Captain: "rich and fudgy chocolate cake topped with a smooth caramel buttercream, finished with a drizzle of caramel sauce and sprinkling of sea salt." They have other desserts, too! Unfortunately there isn't seating inside, so takes your treats to go or eat while strolling. Check out their website at http://www.saintcupcake.com/ or just walk up to Belmont!

Frequently named one of the best happy hours in Portland, this restaurant/bar offers four $2 cocktails, two $2 food options (one is a pretzel, the other one includes grilled cheese AND a small but yummy tomato soup!), and a $10 BOTTLE of wine during their happy hour special daily from 5-7 PM. They also have over a dozen vinos and DJ music most nights after 8 (8:30 Fridays and Saturdays). The place has a seedy feel (says Katrina, but John doesn't see it, lol!) and is a bit run down, but the location and happy hour prices are more than worth checking out! This is a great place to go for a hearty meal. The southern BBQ pulled pork sandwich is phenomenal! Aside from the seriously good food, this place has a cozy vibe to it, and it helps that the staff there all seem to be people who genuinely care about their work and providing a good experience. One of Portland's must-go-to breakfast spots. The best biscuit and gravy sandwich you will ever eat! Not much else to say other than you should go there already! http://www.pinestatebiscuits.com/ **NOTE** For some reason this keeps defaulting the address to the old address. Pine State Biscuits is actually located at 1100 SE Division St.

This awesome breakfast joint (open 7:30 - 3 PM) is just down the street at the corner of 32nd and Belmont. There's regularly a line out the front door and crowded but smiling diners enjoying generous portions within! John recommends the Blood Mary's, skillets, and french toast. If you're looking for cheap, simple, but still delicious you can go for their breakfast special: 2 egg sandwiches with cheese and country ham, and a coffee for $4! I usually call in and get it to-go in order to skip the line.

This place has everything we usually look for in a bar: good food, good beer selection, stiff cocktails, billiards, pinball, a constantly rotating selection of local art to enjoy (and purchase if you really fancy something), live music and DJ's in the basement many nights of the week. A five minute walk from our place, this is definitely one of our favorites :) Check out their site for menu items, events, and more: http://thegoodfoot.com/

Parks & Nature

This is one of the best-known parks in Portland, but it's hard to pin down its charm. There's lush trees, paved paths for biking and walking, rose bushes that bloom come spring, tennis and basketball courts, a duck pond, picnic tables, and tons of festivals, events, and live music come summer - plus the 33rd Ave. and Oak St. entrance is practically around the corner!

Portland is one of four cities in the United States to have an extinct volcano - Mount Tabor - within its boundaries. And because Portland is awesome, we made the volcano into a park! There's picnic areas, walking trails, an awesome sunrise/sunset view, basketball area, tennis courts, playground, and even the majority of the city's drinking water reservoirs.

Essentials

Admittedly overpriced for food, but oh so close! We like them for their huge selection of local beers and growler fills. They also have a deli, coffee shop, olive bar, wines, and some cool unique food items.

Getting Around

Our public transit is called Trimet, and we recommend the *AWESOME* Trip Planner feature on their website or app! Go to: "http://trimet.org/#/planner," or "Trimet.org" then click on "Trip Planner." Use the "Transit Tracker" for real-time updates on bus and MAX line arrivals. -- There's a closer bus stop at 32nd and Belmont, but AirBnB won't let us add it. --
