Silecroft beach Amazing eerie expanse, lovely walk and good cafe. Accessible on the train, don't miss the minors Arms and a walk up black coombe if you're feeling adventurous. Think the miniature railway goes from here which leads to an amazing waterfall. On the way back stop at the Prince Billy for an amazing steak, the owners a character.

Stunning nature reserve with seals and a nice view of piel Island. Need to drive, don't miss Kings Arms (get the right one there's 2), brown cow and black dog in dalton, and I've heard the safari zoo is good. The Greyhound in Grizebecks nice on the way back too.

Park on the left before the gates to the quarry entrance. Walk left or right and it takes you on a couple of hour walking loop over the top with a great view and an observation platform, plus the rock park and views into the quarry. Don't miss the punch bowl on the way back. Great community pub with tasty food.

Beatiful little market town close by, owned almost entirely by the cgp empire. The manor is an incredible pub that I'd happily spend all day in. Always busy, 2 fires, great beers, local camra pub of the year. The other pubs in broughton are also decent. Walk from broughton down to foxfield and make sure not to miss the Prince of Wales. Amazingly quirky with incredible food that stops at 7pm on the dot. Often no lager on draught, real ale, weapons grade cider and home made gin are there speciality. The estuary at foxfield is amazing and worth a walk around, you get a great view on the train to barrow. I do recommend the train north and south. The Blacksmiths arms is a bit further out but worth booking for dinner at, loads of character and amazing food.

Sunset over the estuary and dinner at the Prince of Wales is hard to beat

The clock tower in millom Square is nice, normally busyish and still cheap. The Plough, working men's club and bear in the square are friendly and cheap but generally quiet out of season and not much character. Pattons butchers on Wellington St does great pies, best get there early as the best ones sell out before 10. Lots of the shops just open in the morning. Great Cumberland sausage and bacon rolls from the bakehouse on St George's Terrace but it shut by 1 normally (as is greens, the other Bakery on Wellington St) Check all the pub opening hours and when they serve food. You need to plan your day around this! All these are on our map at http://tiny.cc/millommap

Sightseeing

Walk around the coast, from the slag heap to haverigg. Turn left out the door and walk left down Devonshire Rd past the Devonshire Arms which is lively, and friendly. Walk past the slag heap to the beach and the fishing boats. Follow the shore round to the right, this takes you all the way round past the old docks, past millom beach, around the sea wall, bringing you to haverigg. Amazing walking on the sand at low tide. Harbour Hotel, rising sun and working men's club all great in haverigg and more character than the millom pubs. Walk back past herdwicks  which does great food
