Probably some of the best poutine outside of Quebec and Vancouver is here in Canmore. A bit out of the way, but oh so worth it. If you're brave try the Spruce Beer.

The views of the valley at the top are absolutely spectacular. Definitely a bit challenging if you don’t hike but it’s done by a lot of beginners and the end result is entirely worth it.

Rather than taking a left into Banff turn right and drive the Minnewanka Loop. Stop at Johnson Lake, Two Jack Lake and the ever so iconic Lake Minnewanka. Wander the lake shore or take a boat tour in the summer months. In winter you may see some solid games of hockey on the ice.

Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular trails in Banff so I would recommend hitting it early (however double check the road is open in the spring). It's an easy uphill walk with two gorgeous falls and if you are feeling extra spry continue up to the Ink Pots.

Drive to Upper Kananaskis Lake, explore the lakeshore then continue up to Rawson Lake. A moderate hike with gorgeous views of a lake and a wall of stone at the other side. Continue up Sarrail Ridge for fantastic views of Kananaskis if you wish.

One of my all time favourite summer hikes. Challenging at first the views along the top are draw dropping. Avalanche risks through spring so call Kananaskis Parks to get a trail report. Take your bear spray!

Hike up or take the gondola (42pp) and take in views of the Bow Valley. Too pricey? Look at going up the chairlift at Norquay, Lake Louise or Sunshine.
