“Trøllkonufingur is a 313 m tall monolith on the south-east side of Sandavágur. Only 11 people are known to have reached the top of Trøllkonufingur. Legend has it, that Trøllkonufingur is the finger of a witch that came to throw the Faroe Islands to Iceland. When she came to the sea south of Vágar, the sun came up and she was turned into stone and fell into the ocean. ”

“Fjallavatn is the 2nd largest lake on Vágar as well as on the whole of the Faroe Islands. The area between the lake and the north coast is called “Norð á Munna,” and is a popular hike for locals in the summer; especially on the longest day of the year, where it is possible to watch both sunset and sunrise within a short period of time. Occationally large whales, including orcas and sperm whales, can be seen in the bay below. Although it is a long hike Norð á Munna, it is relatively easy: the path from the end of the road in Vatnsoyrar is almost completely flat. Though, it does require you to cross a river, so appropriate footwear is essential. This hike would take 4-5 hours. It is possible to hike on both sides of the lake, however, the path on the right side of the lake is more popular. Fjallavatn has been a nature conservation area since 1983.”

“Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. The hike along Leitisvatn/Sørvágsvatn out to Trælanípa and Bøsdalafossur waterfall is a favourite among visitors and locals – mostly because of the optical illusion that awaits at the end of the hike. The view of the lake hanging over the ocean is one of the most photographed images from the Faroe Islands. The hike, which takes about 45 minutes to walk one way, is relatively easy. There is a hiking fee of 200kr/person. This fee is paid at the gates. 10 minutes drive from Løðupakkhúsið.”

“One of the most unique sights in the Faroe Islands are “Drangarnir”. Drangarnir are two sea stacks between Vágar and the islet Tindhólmur. The distinct names of Drangarnir are Stóri Drangur and Lítli Drangur which can be translated into Large- and Small sea stack. The viewpoint for Drangarnir can only be reached by walking though private land. Therefore, this viewpoint can only be reached by a guided tour. visitvagar.fo for more info”

“Home to the beautiful waterfall Múlafossur, the village of Gásadalur sits tucked away between lush green fields and soaring mountains to all sides. It is one of those locations that you only imagine you will experience through photographs. Prior to 2004, there were only three ways of reaching the tiny community; none of them included travel by car. One way was to hike over the 700-metre mountains, and the other two options were by boat or helicopter. The inaccessibility of the remote location meant the village’s population fell dramatically. In 2004, a tunnel was blasted through one of the mountains, allowing automobile travel to the isolated settlement. Today, the population totals approx”

“Vatnsdalsvatn is the 3rd largest lake on Vágar. Situated in a valley above the village Bøur, it is relatively easy to get to, although the climb up is steep. The hike would start by the stream "Breiðá" halfway between Bøur and Sørvágur. It would take roughly an hour to hike up to the lake. ”

“Trælanípa (Slave Cliff) is a perpendicular rock wall, which juts 142 metres upwards out of the sea. Supposedly, it has gotten its name from the Viking Age when slaves were pushed off the mountain. Be careful not to get too close to the edge as it is steep! From here, you can see the southernmost part of Streymoy, Hestur, Koltur, Sandoy, Skúvoy and Suðuroy.”

“Tindhólmur is an islet on the southside of Sørvágsfjørður, west of Vágar in the Faroe Islands. It has its name from the five peaks, which are named Ytsti, Arni, Lítli, Breiði, Bogdi (Farthest, Eagle, Small, Broad, Bent). The islet is uninhabited. It has an area of 650,000 square metres (0.25 sq mi) (old Faroese style: two merkur) and its highest point is 262 metres (860 ft).”
