Opera House
“Designed by German architect Max Littmann, and inaugurated in 1910 with The Magic Flute (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), the Grand Theatre in Poznań is a main opera stage in Greater Poland Voivodeship currently directed by Michał Znaniecki. The façade of the building is a huge portico that was built according to the rules of classical architecture of ancient Rome. Dozens of monumental steps are bordered by two sculptures: on the left, a woman riding a lion; and on the right, a man handling a panther. At the top of the staircase stand six massive Ionic columns with a triangular tympanum surmounted by a Pegasus statue, a symbol of the building. To the east is the former restaurant pavilion and to the west is a separate entrance for the emperor. The interior consists of beautifully decorated halls, foyers and other rooms, crystal chandeliers, and rich wall decorations.”

Route
“The Cathedral Island (Pol. Ostrów Tumski) is famous for being one of the first settlements of the Piast dynasty. The basilica’s underground contains the original Piast church from the 10th century, where you will find a real historical gem – the tombs of the first rulers of the country: Mieszko I and his son, who was Poland’s first king, Boleslaw the Brave. Nearby, you will find the Heritage Center of Cathedral Island ‘Brama Poznania’. The island is connected to the main city area with two bridges named after Poland’s first rulers buried on the island. It is worth visiting the island for its wonderful landscape as well.”

Jazz Club
“Dance with the fittest and the hippest in SQ, by far the most envied dance space in town. Silly haircuts and expensive wardrobes abound here, and they’re here for the music not the design – DJs arrive from all across Poland to play here, sometimes even further. The interior isn’t all that, but the nights are legend, and you’ll find no better place to puff the chest out and behave like a big time Bertie. Throughout July and August, Saturday night parties will move to the Imperial Castle courtyard (ul. Św. Marcin 80/82), weather allowing - the start will be at 22:00.”

“Beautiful outdors and indors. Many cultural events happens here. Often you can watch movies, pictures from famous polish artists, photography and that kind of stuff. It was constructed under the German rule in 1910 by Franz Schwechten for William II, German Emperor, with significant input from William himself. Since its completion, the building has housed government offices of Germany (to 1918 and during the Second World War) and Poland (1918–1939, 1945–present).”

“This beautiful castle was created for a German emperor at the beginning of last century, which makes it the youngest monarchical residence on the whole continent. It is here that the talented Polish academics were working on the solving of the German Enigma. During World War II, Adolf Hitler resided in the castle. Its rich and outstanding history make it one of the most curious places in the city”
