Oxford University Tour With Alumni
We will start with a whirlwind overview of Oxford as the central player in 1,000 years of British history, and giving guests an understanding of how the sprawling institution operates before embarking on the tour. Navigating down the windy alleyways we will get an insiders take on the little known viewing angles that bring across the drama of the world famous architecture in this city. With striking spires and imposing buildings, we will cover how these influenced Tolkien, C S Lewis, along with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. We will enter one of the oldest Colleges at Oxford, renowned for its beautiful gardens, before heading into one of the most famous Library's in the world - responsible for over 13 million books. Capping this off we will cover a Harry Potter film site, along with why the most powerful religious figure England has ever seen, was burnt alive in the centre of Oxford, on what is now such a nondescript part of road you could easily miss it. Please note: Colleges and the Library can shut without notice and currently they are available as of August 2021. If this changes on the day we will of course incorporate them - if we are not able to offer any access, we will offer up the option of a full refund.
Pub and City Tour
Oxford Is an amazing city and a chat over a drink in a couple of the oldest pubs in town makes getting to know it all that much more enjoyable. We will meet in the late afternoon and I will show you the iconic sites and tell you about the history, the personalities and events that influenced the world. With as many pubs as colleges in the city centre, there is ample choice of where to sit and absorb the centuries of information. Try a local brew, drink where medieval stables used to be, contemplate the Saxon city wall, watch the quirkiness of ancient establishments, sit where famous literature personalities sat. All within a short walking distance from one another, you will see historical monuments, world-famous buildings and sites where world-shaping events took place. Listen to the legends, the facts and the fantasies hidden around every corner of this magical place while relaxing by the fire or in the garden of pubs that are hidden gems. Other things to note The tour is suitable for all abilities and if you have any specific requirements, please contact me and I will most certainly be able to accommodate you. As the group size is very small you will most likely enjoy a fully private tour.

Cotswolds Guided Walk -any start time
NOTICE START TIME IS NOT 6AM!! That was selected only because airbnb has an inflexible scheduling system- the actual start time can be negotiated but start time could be from 10am to 1pm. Enjoy a guided walk with me through gorgeous scenery and medieval ruins and quaint Cotswolds villages. Many famous Cotswolds villages get crowded but this route is more off the beaten path and so apart from the start & end locations, we can escape any crowds for an active day out. Please note there is about 8 miles walking with lunch and drink stops plus time to visit the ruins and churches, The route starts OUTSIDE the Old Swan Inn/pub in Minster Lovel village and it ends in Burford village (or can be done in reverse) which are within an hour drive from Oxford. If you require to be collected from your hotel in eg Oxford or the Cotswolds, that can be pre arranged but you would need to pay for the taxi directly. Likewise, I can assist you to arrange taxi pick up at the end of the day on same extra cost basis. Alternatively, buses return from Burford every hour to Oxford and take approximately 105 minutes. This activity does require some fitness & is probably not suitable for younger children.
Oxford River Walk & optional Cruise Boat
Oxford Boat Trip + Guided Walk along the Thames to Iffley village which has medieval cottages, a beautiful Norman church plus garden pubs. Special focus on Oxford's Alice in Wonderland heritage as we are more or less following the route which Alice Liddell took with Lewis Carroll on a storytelling boat trip on July 4th 1862. We will also introduce Oxford university & city history , Oxford student life and its college rowing sporting traditions- which can actively be seen on the route too. This activity makes for an active day out in nature away from the city crowds. This tour starts with brief walk introducing Oxford city and university sights lasting up to half hour to arrive from start point to the river cruise point. Tour ends there This activity's average duration is 3 hours. Private groups can book on flexible start time and on any day. Shared group tour fixed schedule will be limited by seasonal demand. Oxford of Morse, Lewis and Endevour
Morse, Lewis and Endeavour are Oxford's own heros, solving the many murders of this dark, sinister and mysterious city. The fact that Oxford's most common crime is bicycle theft and not putting the comma in the proper place, doesn't take anything away from the famous TV detectives. Come and discover where most of the episodes were filmed. Walk in the footsteps of John Thow, Kevin Wheatley and Shaun Evans. And let's not forget Hathaway and Hobson. Visit this natural film setting with the backdrop of dreaming spires and learn about the city and its history as well as relive snippets of the world famous episodes and learn behind the scene information. We will pass the pubs, the buildings and the streets that made Morse and it's sequels what they are. Other things to note If you have reduced mobility and you use a wheelchair, please let me know in advance. I can modify the route to accommodate you. Families with children are welcome, I will not be discussing the murders in details
The Oxford Inklings tour-Lewis & Tolkien
Tolkien once described the Inklings club as “An undetermined and unelected circle of friends who gather around C S lewis, our habit was to read aloud compositions of various kinds ....and lengths !" One cannot underestimate how the loud encouragement this circle of friends gave one another helped produce some of the most important and popular books of the 20th century. Not only Fantasy classics such as The Chronicles Of Narnia and The Lord Of The Rings but also important religious works such as Lewis’s “Mere Christianity” a book which has sold over two hundred million copies. At a relaxed pace, we will explore many sites and stories associated with this eclectic group, concentrating not only on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien but also some of the other Inklings such as Owen Barfield and a man who was a great influence on Lewis, Charles Williams. Whilst taking in Oxford's stunning architecture we shall wander the grounds of a beautiful medieval College associated with the Inklings and visit The University Church of Saint Marys {Where Lewis gave talks} - any entrance fees are included in the price We shall also walk by many of their regular haunts such as The Eagle And Child pub & Eastgate Hotel. I shall also regale great stories of which I have collected over many years Other things to note Comfortable foot wear is highly recommended, roads in Oxford are uneven in places.
Historic and Architectural Highlights - University and City
We’ll trace Oxford's growth from its Anglo Saxon beginnings through its enchanted, sometimes horrifying history. One day Cotswolds Electric Cycle Tour
Cycle the Cotswolds region using high performance electric bicycles. Tours departing from near Oxford, full day activity. My hobby was cycling the Cotswolds so I decided to move to this area from Oxford. Our route takes you off the beaten paths as some destinations in the Cotswolds get too crowded but the itinerary can be customised where practical, This is an active day out but you don't have to be too sporty to still enjoy riding an electric bike. You must however be aged at least 16 years old. Typical itinerary is 10.30am to 5.30pm with lunch break and tea break time (meals are not included in cost). We will visit several villages or hamlets plus see medieval 'wool' churches & option to visit ruins of a Roman villa or medieval manor. My prices quoted are based on max 6 clients total but if you are over 4 persons, I can hire in extra bikes with adequate notice. Please make sure to mention your heights, when you contact me or when you book too. Meet me in Hanborough village, which is only 9 minutes train ride, first stop from Oxford on the train.
Chauffeured Punting Trip -any start time
NOTICE: The start time is optional as this is for private group tours only. I have added it by default as 9.30am start time but it can be at any start time. Please request start time, when you make the booking. You can either sit back & relax or have a go at handing a punting or rowing boat, if you choose to. Enjoy the sights and skyline as we do downriver while I entertain you with stories about Oxford, student life, the rowing races tradition and of course tell you how 'Alice in Wonderland' was the result of just such a story telling river trip outing on July 4th 1862, when Lewis Carroll entertained Alice & her sisters who were the daughters of Christchurch Dean. Other things to note These boats only fit 4-5 children or adults so this tour is priced & offered as a private group tour booking rate viz. just select 1 person only as the price will be same whether 1 or 4 persons. My colleague is a native Russian/Ukrainian speaker and he is also a research member of Oxford university. On all tours, we can also introduce student life, the university, college traditions too, as per your interests made known to us.
