The location could not be more ideal. We are located midway along the Great Ocean Road, a world heritage listed tourist destination. Our eco-friendly, charming, comfortable and rustic cabin sits on 7 acres of bush and organic and farmland, looking out over the Aire Valley. The Blue Wren Hideaway is one of two unique and very different cottages on the property. The property is bordered on two sides by the Cape Otway National Park, an undisturbed native forest filled with ferns, moss, ancient Myrtle and Eucalyptus trees, with koalas, wallabies, possums and many species of native birds and other animals.
The light filled open-plan dining-lounge area features polished timber floors, comfortable lounge seating and a warm cosy potbelly wood-fire heater that heats up the whole house beautifully. The interior décor is interesting and unusual, inspired by natural art forms.
Two decks surround the property for you to enjoy the views and the outdoors. A large, enclosed deck area with very comfortable outdoor seating for 6 people, and a sunny north facing deck, provide an ideal location to relax and enjoy our stunning 360 unobstructed views of Aire Valley and the undisturbed wilderness of the Otways National park.
The fully equipped kitchen features gas cook-top, fan-forced oven and grill, microwave, refrigerator and freezer, rice cooker, slow cooker (you can put on a caserole, go exploring all day then come home to a hot meal), sandwich press, ample cookware, crockery and cutlery. Cofee press and fresh ground coffee are provided, along with tea, milk, sugar, salt and pepper, and cooking oil.
The master bedroom features a very comfortable queen size bed, a singlebed, stylish antique armchairs, built in wardrobe to store your belongings, and Cedar French doors that open out onto your private entrance to the deck with views of the forest.
The cosy bathroom features antique claw-foot bath, lovely hot shower, organic hand made soaps and soft organic cotton towels.
A sofa in the loungeroom unfolds into a comfortable double bed, and a pull-out single mattress provides comfortable extra beds, the house sleeps up to 6 people.
From the comfortable outdoors seating area of the deck you can read, play board games, relax, or observe Koalas and many species of birds, which can be seen daily in the trees right outside the house. Not a day goes by we don’t see Koalas, particularly mothers and babies, sleeping and eating gum-leaves. If you have never seen Koalas in their natural habitat, you will be sure to see many here, we have several families of Koalas living in the trees right outside our back door, just a few meters from our house.
Other native animals regularly visit the property as they emerge from the forest to graze at sunset. Animals spotted regularly include Wallabies, Echidnas, Kookaburras, Rosellas, King Parrots, Wedge Tail eagles, Cockatoos, boo-book and powerful Owls at night, and of course the ever present beautiful Blue Wren (Splendid Fairy Wren). The Blue Wren Hideaway is a bird-watcher's dream come true. Sitting quietly in the forrest for just ten minutes you are likely to spot at least 10 different species of birds. We provide binoculars for our guests to enjoy.
For keen astronomy enthusiasts, at night, while listening to the owls, you can enjoy unobstructed views of the night sky to the south and west. With no light pollution, the Milky Way is dazzling, and its neighbouring galaxies are easily visible to the naked eye. Bring a telescope if you have one, or use the binoculars provided.
The space is ideal for romantic weekend getaways, family vacations or for groups of friends exploring the great ocean road and tourist destinations. Its a wonderful place to just relax and unwind.
