ON ARRIVAL TO PUERTO VALLARTA & finding
Punta de Mita, an Aztec word meaning “Gateway to Paradise”.
Punta de Mita is situated on a 1,500-acre peninsular at the northern most tip of Puerto Vallarta’s "Bahia de Banderas" (Bay of Banderas) on the Pacific coast of Mexico. This quiet fishing village is an easy 50 minute drive north from old downtown Puerto Vallarta.
Upon arrival at P.V’s international airport you have a few options on how to get to Punta de Mita; hail a taxi, hire an Uber, rent a vehicle, or our favorite and easiest/cheapest method, catch the local bus. How? When you walk out of the airport, hang a left towards the main highway. You need to get to the other side of the highway by using the overhead pedestrian bridge. Once you have crossed the highway and walked down the ramp on the other side, the bus stop is right there. Make sure you ask someone which bus you need to catch to get to Punta de Mita. Our locals are very friendly and will willingly help you. Once on the bus it’s hard to get lost as it’s the very last stop at the OXXO store and the round-about in Punta de Mita.
Suites de Mita is a one-minute walk behind the OXXO store. The cost for a bus ticket is approximately 50 pesos.
While waiting for the Punta de Mita bus, and if you’re hungry, there is an amazing Merlin de Taco restaurant at the bus stop. Grab yourself the best shrimp or merlin taco in PV and enjoy it while travelling the 40-minute bus ride to Punta de Mita. Upon arrival in Punta de Mita, disembark from the bus, take the few steps down behind and to the left of the OXXO shop. Suites de Mita is right there on your left.

If culture tickles your fancy - then Punta de Mita is home to the last remaining pre-Columbian culture found in this hemisphere. Evidence of civilization in Punta de Mita and surrounding areas dates back to at least 2000 BC, where there were about 6 different cultural tribes residing in and around the area. Over time the population of these tribes has shrunk, but one of the original tribes still living and practicing their traditional ways are the Huichol (Wee-chol) Indians. They are a living tribute to Punta de Mita’s history, and are found living in the Sierra Madre Mountains west of Punta de Mita. Still living their pure pre-Columbian culture, they are a tribe of mystics dedicated to living a life balanced in nature.
If you have to have your golf fix, Punta de Mita is home to very famous golf courses, and all though they are private clubs you can easily purchase day passes.
Salulita and surrounding areas are just a hop, skip and jump by bus. Salulita is famous for its surfing and zip-lines. San Pancho, which is more of a sleepy town with a quaint beach, is a little further north of Salulita, and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, another charming fishing village just south of Punta de Mita, has an amazing fish market with a wide range of freshly-caught seafood. It is possible to go to local markets in any of these villages every day of the week, if you're a market lover. Each village, town and city has their own market day; these are fun, vibrant and colorful, with anything/everything that you may fancy. All these destinations have access by bus. The bus system in Mexico will get you to pretty much any nook and cranny you want to visit.
