Spa
“There’s definitely something in the water here in Bath. A true centre for relaxation, it’s the only place in Britain where you can bathe in natural hot springs. Whether it’s a spa day, wellness weekend or a longer retreat, it’s the perfect place for a relaxing break. Powered by the same mineral-rich thermal springs that soothed the Romans, the first to harness the city’s healing waters back in AD43, Thermae Bath Spa is a decidedly twenty-first-century take on the spa experience. The undeniable highlight is the rooftop pool with its sensational 360-degree views of the city. They’re made even more spectacular by the addition of some atmospheric steam on a cold day. Have bubbles in the thermal spa, take a spa treatment or enjoy a light lunch in the restaurants. A great place for relaxation and literally soaking up some history. ”

“Get away from it all with a stroll through an immaculately designed eighteenth-century landscaped garden. Created by Bath entrepreneur Ralph Allen (with advice from famed landscape architect Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown), it’s an oasis of calm just a stone’s throw from the busy city centre. Explore lakes and winding wooded paths and cross the famous Palladian Bridge, one of only three bridges of its kind in the UK”

“Sydney Gardens, formerly ‘The Pleasure Gardens’, were laid out with the purpose of being a commercial pleasure garden, built behind the Sydney Hotel (now The Holburne Museum), which was intrinsic to Bath’s social scene. Jane Austen was an avid walker and enjoyed walking these gardens throughout her time living in Bath. The gardens are still open to the public and feature tennis courts, flowerbeds and a replica of the Temple of Minerva, making it the ideal spot for a stroll or a picnic. There is also a path that leads down to the Kennet and Avon Canal”

“Jane Austen novels still make an excellent read even 200 years after her death. To celebrate this, Parade Gardens have constructed a commemorative flowerbed, designed to look like an open book and quill. It's quite a sight. Enjoy the flowerbed from the Grand Parade or enter the gardens and relax in a deckchair with an ice cream. £1.50 or free to Discovery Card holders.”

“My favourite green space in Bath! In the centre of the city, and you have to pay a small entry fee, but it's worth it!”

“In a city packed with world-class architecture, The Royal Crescent still stands out. A sweeping arc of Georgian townhouses made from warm, honey-coloured stone and fronted by expansive green lawns, it was designed by John Wood the Younger to give well-off residents the feel of country living in the heart of the city. Mission accomplished. ”
