Come and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the lights and noise of town in this old Bunkhouse located 20 miles south of Tucumcari on a cattle ranch. 2.5 miles of dirt road after pavement.

Ο χώρος

Welcome to JX Ranch Bunkhouse - a short 30 minute (20 miles highway plus 2.5 miles unimproved ranch road) drive from Interstate 40 and old Route 66 at Tucumcari, New Mexico. Travelers with horses are welcome! Pets are also welcome - do let us know if you are bringing a pet and read the pet rules please. Note - We ask you to please not request a reservation more than 3 weeks before you want to come - we simply cannot be sure that we can accommodate you any earlier than that and would have to decline the request. Thank you for your understanding.
Note: if you are allergic to wasps know that at times we seem to have them around. Contact us if concerned.

Located on this 7,000-acre cattle ranch, two miles off the pavement, you are assured privacy, peace and quiet away from the noise and lights of town. Here you can enjoy nature from the shade of the JX Ranch Bunkhouse, built by early settlers and was the original Homestead. While we have done some remodeling, we have strived to leave it as authentic as possible; it is not fancy, but very rustic and cozy! Bring slippers; the old wood-floors are cold in the winter-time, hard year-round.

The Bunkhouse consists of two separate rooms, each with its own kitchen, bath and private entrance. Each room can be rented separately from the other, with its own entrance kitchen and bath. If you search for airbnb listings in "Tucumcari, NM" or go to our Profile, all three will show up (Longhorn Room, Cow Camp and Whole Bunkhouse).

The Longhorn Room is the larger of the two - It features the original rock fire-place, three twin beds, an antique wagon-wheel sofa and rocker, a TV, small kitchen area with your basics, and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub used as a shower. There is a connecting door (lockable) to the smaller Cow Camp for easy access when you rent the whole Bunkhouse.

The Cow Camp has two twin beds, a wagon-wheel sofa and TV, and a kitchen and bathroom. The entire Bunkhouse, which comfortably accommodates 5 people (7 if using the sofas), rents for $149/night (no housekeeping).

In the evening, you can watch the wild turkey as they prepare to roost in the hackberry trees down- canyon below the Bunkhouse. You may see a doe with her fawn on their way to water, or a busy roadrunner scooting by with the day's catch in his mouth. The sight of our colorful Longhorn cattle (if they are nearby) will take you back to the time of the trail drives, one of which - the famous Goodnight-Loving Trail - went through the ranch and right past where the Bunkhouse is located. The old trail is perfect for an evening or early-morning hike. At dusk, coyotes call to each other across the canyons and ridges. On a cloudless night, the star-filled sky will take your breath away!

We offer a continental breakfast – your kitchen is stocked with cinnamon rolls (frozen, as I only get to town every 10 - 14 days), farm-fresh eggs , orange juice, coffee, tea, sugar and creamer. In addition, we provide flour, salt & pepper, cooking spray and vegetable oil for your other cooking needs. You are welcome to bring food staples and prepare your own meals - the kitchen is equipped with a two-burner electric cook-top, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, small refrigerator and a mini-grill. You will find basic cooking utensils - pots and pans, dishes, plates etc. Chairs and table are outside the Bunkhouse where you can sit and eat while watching the sun rise over the Caprock.

We provide a charcoal grill and sitting area outside the Bunkhouse for your enjoyment. We raise and sell all-natural grass-fed beef (no hormones or antibiotics) and usually have steaks or hamburger meat available for purchase. Let us know ahead of time if you want some for your dinner so we can have them thawed out for your arrival. If you want to purchase our beef to take with you, make sure to bring a cooler.

Pets are welcome but are to be kept on a leash when outside, and kept off the furniture when inside as a courtesy to other guests. We appreciate you cleaning up after them around the Bunkhouse. We provide a cat litter box with sand and food bowls and a dog-waste disposal can.

Tucumcari, in its wildest days, was named “Six Shooter Siding”; you will find many restaurants and famous Route 66 Icons and murals. Lowes is the one grocery store - go north on Exit 332 to light, turn left and Lowes is two blocks down on your right. Come back same way and stay on 209.

The small town offers two museums - the Historical Museum and the Dinosaur Museum. Two lakes are within an hour's drive of the ranch; Ute Lake (45 minutes) and Conchas Lake (1 hour) offer boating and fishing. The Billy the Kid Museum in Fort Sumner is an hour's drive, and Palo Duro Canyon with the wonderfully entertaining Texas Play in the summer, is two hours away.

Tucumcari is located on I-40, approximately 180 miles east of Albuquerque, NM and 110 miles west of Amarillo, TX. We are 20 miles south of Tucumcari on State Highway 209, and 2 miles off the highway. See directions.

Άλλα στοιχεία προς σημείωση

In the summer time, If you get here after dark, keep in mind that out in the country we have bugs, and I would highly suggest you keep the light off in the room while unloading your car, so you don't attract flying insects into the room as they are attracted to light.

Please read our "Welcome to the JX Ranch Cabin" when you arrive. It contains suggestions and "house rules" to make your stay enjoyable.

When conditions are dry, due to extreme wild-fire danger, smoking is not allowed inside or outside, except inside your vehicle and using your ash tray. No open fire or grilling outside when conditions are dry/windy. Check with us first. Water is a scarce and precious commodity in this area: we ask that you keep this in mind when using water.

When using the portable Charcoal grill we provide, please do not leave it unattended. Empty ashes into the provided ash bucket, and brush/clean the grill for the next guests (tools are provided).

Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash when outside. Bring a blanket for them to sleep on - we request that you keep them off the furniture as a courtesy to later guests who may be allergic to pet hair. Please pick up any waste inside the yard around the Bunkhouse; a "Pet Waste" basket is provided as well as baggies for the cat litter box.

This is the second time I've stayed with Mimi and Tom. It's a delightful place!

Une expérience au far west intéressante! mais le confort reste sommaire et relève plus du gîte que d'une maison. Dommage.

Απάντηση από τον/την Mimi And Tom:
Amicalement, Mimi

After turning our gaze from the top of Gateway Arch toward the West, my friends from Spain and Germany and I hoped to discover the real deal out West. Staying at Tom and Mimi's authentic bunkhouse was the perfect venue to do that. It is removed from the ranch house. Wild turkeys graze around the house early in the morning. The night sky was amazing in its clarity. There were cinnamon buns and juice for breakfast and a new Weber grill to cook out on. It is ideally located between Ft. Sill, OK and Santa Fe, not far off old Route 66. Hope I live long enough to stay there again on my cross-country drives. It was truly for a day and night "Home, home on the range."

Mimi and Tom are wonderful hosts with a gorgeous property at a scenic location. Me and my guests could not have asked for a better stay. The listing is well stocked and aesthetically pleasing. This was a perfect place for my guests who were visiting from out of state and wanted to see the real New Mexico. Thank you again, Mimi, for the gracious hospitality.

Mimi and Tom are wonderful hosts, staying on their ranch is like visiting old friends. The cottage is lovely and offers everything you need. Visiting JX ranch gave us great insight into life in the country, only wish we stayed longer.

Beautiful holistic ranch with a historic bunkhouse full of quaint, old-timey feel. We made a 5 hour drive and this was the perfect spot to rest, forget about the highway and take in a couple of hikes along the ranch roads with our 5 year old boy. Mimi is a true cowgirl! She mades us feel so welcome and so did the 3 ranch dogs. Great cell reception here btw.

We really had a lovely stay at the bunkhouse. Mimi, Tom, the adorable doggies and the curious, entertaining cows made us feel so welcome. It was relaxed, beautiful, and easy for all of us to enjoy passing the time. It's not always easy for us to find activities that appeal to our 3 kids, since we have a wide range of ages (14, 11, and 4), but JX Ranch was perfect and EVERYONE was able to have fun both apart and together. :) The bunkhouse itself is totally charming and sweet. Our dog had a blast playing with the ranch dogs and we loved walking outside at various times of the day to see how things were always changing...the cattle were coming and going (staring at us with interest), the wild turkeys were hilarious to our 4-year-old, the long hike to the top of the rock was GORGEOUS, and our steaks were completely mouthwatering. We all had a great time and Mimi's warm hospitality was the highlight! Thanks again!!

I was born in Sweden and moved here by myself in 1988 to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a cowboy! In 1996 Tom and I got hitched and we've been ranching ever since, both here in New Mexico and in Nebraska. Using holistic range management principles we take good care of our land, cattle, water and wildlife on which we depend for our livelihood. We used to take in guests coming for a 'working cattle ranch vacation", and are now renting the bunkhouse out to travelers on Route 66. We raise and sell all-natural grass-fed beef on our ranch and Tom is also a real estate agent and sells farms and ranches and other rural properties in New Mexico.
