Aliona is a lovely host. She and her family greeted us warmly and were very helpful. For example, her husband carried my bag up the stairs. They reviewed all the features of the apartment with us in person. Aliona made a reservation for us at a restaurant within walking distance where we had a good dinner. The view of the castle is as grand as described. There are a few things you should know before reserving, however. The apartment is advertised as second floor, which in France means third floor. In fact, it is an attic apartment up five flights of stairs with sixty-two steps. This is OK; we had no trouble managing it despite our advancing age, however, one should be prepared. The ceiling is charming with exposed beams, but they are quite low: less than six feet. It has steep eves and one must be careful not to bump one's head on the beams when getting up from bed or the couch. Finally, when we were there, the gas stove was not working properly. There was a new stove standing in the hallway ready to be installed. You might want to check and be sure the problem has been rectified. Also, when we were there, their off-street parking was temporarily unavailable because of construction. We were able to park close by on the street, but you might want to ask about this if off-street parking is important to you. All in all, though, it is a fine apartment, and Aliona and her family are very charming, friendly and helpful. They are available near-by if you need them during your stay.
