Τι θα κάνετε
Our small group tour of 5-6 people will meet inside the Eagle and Child pub, where the famous inkling authors (including JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis) would meet and discuss their writings over a pint. I will briefly explain the tour and some background history. We will then cut through quiet lanes to the University Parks, passing the imposing University Museum of Natural History and it's quirky neighbour the Pitt Rivers Museum with unique collections. We'll stroll through the pretty parks, down to the river and Parsons Pleasure, once a notorious student bathing area, then meander along a beautiful, hidden path that most visitors to Oxford never discover as it's not on the usual Oxford tourist tracks. Lined with willows, it is known as Mesopotamia as it lies between two channels of the River Cherwell. Walking back along the river, past colleges and meadows, we'll reach the beautiful riverside pub Victoria Arms, a favourite of locals but rarely found by visitors. It was, however, visited by Cromwell during the Civil War. Relax here, looking out across sweeping lawns, to punts passing on the river. I'll tell stories along the way. You can walk or catch a bus or tax back to the centre

For over 15 years, I have hosted and taught foreign visitors to Oxford, and have given them guided tours around hidden pathways, so often missed by the passing traveller. I have travelled widely and researched and written guidebooks. Oxford is famous for its university but there is another Oxford – I know its hidden, unspoilt banks of rivers that lie behind the colleges, minutes away from bustling streets. I can show you cosy corners in tucked-away pubs where literary and historical giants sat. I will tell you local stories and anecdotes that are part of the Oxford folklore. I can tailor the tour to suit your special interests.
