Unique Night Skies and Northern Lights Photo Tour
Via a local bed and breakfast or a sled dog rescue, come immerse yourself in my view of our magnificent night sky! Come find out why, in winter, my life revolves around one natural wonder, Aurora Borealis, The Northern Lights! Learn how and why these awe-inspiring natural night lights exist, why we get to see them, and how we predict them. We can go over the on-going science being conducted, and/or go through a photography crash course on how to capture the lights in the skies, so that your memories of what you saw, are preserved forever. Depending on which location is the best on any particular night, you may meet sled dogs and reindeer, a musher who has summited Denali 7 times, or enjoy a home cooked meal by a fire made by folks who made their Alaska dreams a reality against all odds. If clouds or other weather get in the way of our view of the sky, we can take the tour mobile and drive further into interior alaska to clear and darker skies. Portraits are included during your night whenever Lady Aurora graces us with her presence. If she does not, we always have a million stars and planets as a back-up plan. My hope is that you will come out of this adventure with much joy and gratitude for the countless wonders our planet bestows upon us. Maybe, you'll end up humbled, knowing nature has a powerful gift for us, when we pause the fast life, to stop, listen and watch!

Overlooked beauty of Alaska
First, meet and greet. We’ll all meet at the Diamond Center Hotel for introduction, then go over our destination. We’ll all load up and head to the trail head. Our trail is the Beluga point overlook, that also over looks the Turnagain Arm. It is located at mile post 110 on the Seward highway, just 16 minutes from the Diamond Center hotel. On our trip we’ll discuss the enriched Alaska life style in our great state. At the trail head we’ll go over a couple saftey features for our hike, and what to expect. Our hike will be a short 20-30 minutes but moderate in difficulty level. It is only .3 miles at a 400ft elevation climb to a beautiful scenic view of the whole Turnagain Arm. While admiring the view it is a good time for water, and more knowledge about Alaska life style. Snacks and water will be provided during this break before continuing on our journey back to the trail head. Back at the parking lot, we’ll take a nice cool down with some good stretching, discuss more about Alaska and it’s history. We’ll load up and head back to the Diamond Center Hotel.
Aurora Snowshoeing Adventure with Photography
Trek out on a photography adventure under the Northern Lights with professional aurora portrait photographer Nathan Cox. We'll embark together on a magical journey through the sparkling frozen tundra, chasing the colorful swirls of aurora borealis overhead as we learn the science behind the natural phenomenon and how to photograph it using your own camera. The trek is a 5 hour tour by 15 passenger van that features a stop with a moderate 20 min hike/snowshoeing trek to the top of a mountain with 360 degree views and a large rock formation. We have many other secret aurora viewing locations that we can drive to depending on where weather and visibility are best. Aurora portraits and photography lessons will be the main focus of our adventure but you don't have to participate in lessons or portraits if you simply want to enjoy the aurora. Regardless of how visible the Aurora is on any given night guests will go home with unique arctic portraits that will be cherished for a lifetime. If the aurora happens to not show up during the tour you will be eligible for a free tour within 18 months of your original tour date. Portraits are processed and sent out the same night of your tour and will be made available online for download and print purchase within 24 hours. Your guide has over 20 years of Artic survival experience and will ensure a safe, comfortable tour. START TIMES VARY
Hike with a Retired Sled Dog
Note: the price is for two people. Bring a friend! During summer, we'll meet at the west end of Raspberry Road in front of the Chalet at Kincaid Park. Visitors need to be reasonably fit and have clothing for the current weather. We'll hike for the amount of time and the challenge the visitors want: up to a two-hour walk, from gentle to more strenuous. Once Anchorage has snow, we will choose a different place to walk, as major Kincaid trails are open only to skiers in winter. Contact me through Airbnb messaging. Important: You'll need personal transportation. There is no public transport to most areas unless we walk on the Coastal Trail (and you can do that easily on your own). You'll need to be in shape to walk up to three miles, over uneven terrain. The group will set the challenge level.
Plein Air Painting in Fairbanks Alaska
We will paint from life outside in Fairbanks, Alaska. I offer this experience seasonally from May through September. We will meet at the main parking lot at Creamer’s Field. First, I like to learn about why you are excited to embark on the historic tradition of plein air painting, and your experience with painting, but no experience is necessary. This will allow me to tailor our painting adventure unique for you ensuring your most satisfaction! Then we will decide what part of the refuge you’d like to create a painting in. What are you most passionate about? The wetlands? The vast fields? The historic buildings? Then our journey begins. We will walk to our decided location set up equipment and I will demonstrate painting alongside you. Giving you instruction if wanted, guiding you through the complete plein air painting process. I will provide all of the supplies. You will leave with an original plein air oil painting! I am also happy to ship your completed and dried painting back home for you through USPS for $10.00 if that helps with your traveling plans:)
My off-grid homestead life w/ sled dogs
I will show you my personal Alaskan life at my off the beaten path homestead, just south of Talkeetna. Of course you will meet my Alaskan husky sled dogs. They are a rowdy bunch, but also super friendly and some (Sam and Hayden) even think that 50 - 60 lb is a perfect size to be a lap dog. You will meet each dog individual and learn about sled dogs in general. You will also learn about how the dogs are an integral part of my life and will sit at my kitchen table to see what it takes to live in Alaska year round without having any utility connections (no running water or electricity network hookup). I have setup many systems to still live a relative modern life in summer as well as in winter. You will learn about how me and the dogs collect our own water, haul our own firewood and building material, and how I grow, ferment, bake and gather 80% of my own food. Besides helping me with these tasks the dogs also provide me with winter transportation to explore the incredible back-country of Alaska in winter. It is a unique opportunity to see how and why we live here in the far north. Come visit me and my dogs. Note: * Guests have to be interested in working dogs and off-grid living. * I have no running water and sport an outhouse. No smoking, no animals of any kind. * This is not a large scale tourist destination, but my real life.
